The w3 is definetely not the best sub that JL makes, and I wouldn't say that JL's are the best subs on the market. They are very good but I think you could do just as good for less money.

Loudest sub guy was running a Kicker.

I would agree. I am running a Kicker L5 15" it is marine grade just like all kicker speaker and it pounds.

I run a JBL GTI which is their top end sub it's very nice and extremely well constructed but it does require some pretty hefty power to really tap into it's gut's I mean the damn thing is 32lbs. I push it with a 1200 watt amp also by JBL. I previously had their Power Series 1024 also a very nice sub that pounds pretty damn tough. I purchased my GTI on Ebay brand new for $250 shipped which is pretty good since MSRP is $500.

If your stuck on JL their top dog is the w7 series followed by the w6 both require some pretty deascent power especially the w7's.

There's loads of other very good very high end lesser known brands out there as well. To be honest in the case of sub's you get what you pay for so drop some coin you'll be happy you did.

take a look at TC sounds www.tcsounds.com I just ordered one a few days ago, they have great warranties ( 5 years) and from reviews and message boards have incredible SQ and SPL.

FI Q, adiuoque hd2.5, tc sounds tc9, kicker L7 all would be better than w3.

Do you want to rock it out or pound?? You might consider going with a 12 or 13 if you want to get some big bass! I had a 10W6 and it did OK I put a 13W6 in a bigger box and it'll knock the bathing suit off your wife/girl friend. If you're putting it under the seat like in the passenger compartment I would recommend going bigger because my 10 needed the compartment open to hear much bang. my 13w6 doesn't need that opened to shake the whole boat!! I plan on putting my 10 under the dash as soon as I get off my a$$ and get a box put together. I'll pushed both with a JL 1000/1 which is what I need to run a 13 and 10. The 500/1 will do more than enough for you. I'm not sure it'd wouldn't meet my needs but hey, more is better, right?? Battery additions will be a must with a capacitor and isolator if you go big... With just my 13w6 with the compartment closed you can stand in the middle of my Calabria Pro-V and look over the horizon and it'll blur your vision NO KIDDING!

just bought a 12 w6 JL and installed it and it pounds, thanks for the info, by the way the tower speakers are infinity and so are the boat speakers 5 1/4s and 6x9s with 2 500 watt mtx amps.
