bought a new boat...question...

just picked up my "new" boat yesterday...not new, but a '97 which is new to me. couple questions...the carpet is so-so...needs to be replaced sooner or later. i've seen on the pics of the brand new boats that the carpet is pretty "plush" looking - any place in particular to buy carpet from that would be a nice addition? how hard is it to do?? also, i noticed underneath the windshield that there is a small spidered crack in the fiberglass on the side of the boat...nothing major...is that a real big deal to anyone? i know if i paid $50k for it it would matter...but it is 9 years old. The hull doesn't have a mark on it...and i know this guy took care of it...what would cause the small crack(s)??

on a side note...i picked it up in salt lake yesterday...and drove it home to wyoming... it was hammered by the time i got home...covered in snow, ice, and dirt...and salt from the roads. it was 5 below zero when we got home...i took my truck and new baby through the car wash...but the soapy water was freezing before i could rinse it off! needless to say the entire thing is a huge block of ice including the interior...sitting in our shop. nearly killed me to see it like that... hopefully it doesn't break in two before it warms up and i can clean it up.

The stress cracks are pretty normal. If the guy put weight in the boat they are probably from his own rollers. If not they are from others rollers. No big deal. I know they can patch it up for you...just depends on how much it matters to you.

Try to keep the vinyl from freezing. A few years back I had the interior on a Mastercraft freeze and crack in a few places. We had a freak storm come in and it rained, the next day it got below freezing and cracked the seats.

Stress cracks or spider cracks are not a big deal, more of a visual thing that may or may not bug you.

To help bring the carpet back.(When it thaws) Use a MILD detergeant like Dove. Scrub the carpet with a soft bristle brush and then wash into the bildge. Vacuum with a DRY VAC. and the carpet should pretty much come back. After the vaccum
hit it with the brush again to bring back the nap out of the carpet.

thanks! it's still below zero...so there isn't much i can do with it until this weekend when i can be at home and heat up the shop...when i get her all cleaned up, i'll post some pics. i actually bought a '97 wake challenger...has the 270 horse v-drive...wrap around seating...a boss tower and racks...two tower speakers...a 15" sub...and amp...cd player. it's in really good condition...motor only has about 70 hours on it...now i just need the lake to thaw so i can take it out and play!! sure beats the 86 bayliner with a 130 horse that i just sold...i can only imagine with a v-drive and tower, i'll be quitting my job and making a living on the pro-wakeboarding circuit within months...
