Between new and slightly used... this is a tough decision.

WetSounds 3-Some - approx $1500 (would still need amp)

NVS Tyrants with 1000 watt Zapco amp - approx $1300

Skylon Rubicon 450 - approx $1300 (would still need amp)

Then I would sell my Evid Pro Audios.

Get the threesome. The 485 rocks.

you can get tyrants and the 1000 watt zapco amp for 1300? that is a STEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I vote the threesome setup, if you have a chance listen to the tyrants side by side with the threesome, there is a very noticeable diff. Not that either is better or worse, just different sound. Listen to them w/o any help from an eq too. FYI, they both use the same interchangeable speaker connectors.

But the tyrants and that amp are a great price.

I want to know how your gonna get Tyrants and a 1k watt amp for 1300? when the tyrants are 1495 alone, for a pair. and the zapco amp is about 800. That just doesn't add up. Unless it's all used thats another story.

I'd go with the tyrants and amp at that price. Otherwise I'd go 3-some.

I guess what it comes down to... is if all are within the same price range.. I just want to make sure that I am going to get nice loud and clear sound...

If I save a few hundred bucks.. and dont get as good of sound.. then I dont really care about saving a few hundred bucks..

So if the Tyrants are on par with the WetSounds... I would definitely go with the Tyrants...

How are co-ax speakers vs the horn being totally separate... or is it just appearance?

Tyrants! That is a smoking deal, get em before he changes his mind.

The Skylons shouldn't even be no that list.

Question for those who are familiar with HLCD...

Does it make a difference if they are in a coaxial or as separates... I know with tweeters etc... there is a big difference..

But what about horns and mids all in on unit?

I think the NVS deal is too good to pass up.

OK, I'm hesitant to comment here but it is a legitimate question regarding the HLCD differences of Coax vs a traditional Horn lens.
Firstly, in most cases, the compression driver behind the lens or Coax is the same. At least it is curently on NVS products. But, because of the horn lens vs the coned shape of the lens attached to the coax, the dispersion is different from one design to the next. Some are very wide while we at NVS keep it narrow.Traditional lenses can be made in a large number of dispersion patterns. Because of space limitations on a tower the choices are reduced.
In the case of the NVS Entity and its horn lens(by the way kko13 this is the top perfoming product on the market today... bar none) the dispersion is controlled to provide large amounts of volume starting at some 50 feet back. This will remain dense all the way past 175 feet.
The coax on the other hand, has a wider dispersion pattern. The density is higher closer and although not as dense at 175 feet as the traditional lens, it is still excellent at 90 feet.
Put another way, Coax's will be louder closer to the boat, while a traditional Horn will be more directional based on the lens design.
The next good question should be "what difference is there between and 8" and a 10"? answer, over 50%.

Interesting comments. Thank you!

Hmm... Tyrants.. are 10 inch... with co-ax configuration.

Wetsounds are 8 inch... seperate horn configuration.

Tyrants I would be getting the amp that has the proper power etc for those speakers...

Wetsounds... I would have to pull out some extra cash to find a good amp...

Leaning towards the Tyrants... though I would love to hear them side by side!

Crank up some Anne Murray's greatest hits... and see what sounds best! hahah

I have the 485s on my boat and have heard the Tyrants many times. They are both ridiculously loud/clear. The fact that the Tyrants come with a great amp at a killer price should answer your question. I am sure you will not be dissapointed either way

So are you going to add those speakers to the boat in the profile. That will be the most banging setup for fishin'

hate to hijack... but, i was looking at the Bullet Hollow points ( mostly because they fit into my exsisting factory cans that have forward facing lights).

anybody heard these speakers? Seems as though there is some kinda conspiracy going on, when you Google "bullet Hollow Points" you get a bunch of Maulibu Crew broken links... as if they had been yanked for some reason??

was also considering buying some wetsounds Pro60 speakers only, and installing them into the factory cans.

help... need to buy speakers soon!

I didn't know you could buy the pro-60's only??
Old     (trickyboarder08)      Join Date: Jul 2005       04-04-2008, 12:05 PM Reply
yea, where are you going to get the speakers only?

Preston nice call. That fishin boat will PUMP. Somehow I don't think that will help his fishing odds.

Pro 60s scream just not as much mid bass as the pro 80's they are great for headroom issues ie illusion x tower. They project awesome but for a slightly fuller sound go with the pro 80s. And for the ultimate the 485
Old    Ben Kerran            04-04-2008, 1:30 PM Reply
or go with all of them on your tower
Craig- I wouldn't recommend paying for the 60's if you are going to use them in a different enclosure. The enclosure shape plays a big part in the sound quality/dispersion of the Wetsounds speakers.

Craig-I heard the Bullet Hollow Points at the Sacramento Boat Show. My expectations were a little high since everyone was commenting on their midbass. Honestly, I was kinda let down. Then again, I don't know exactly how they were powered.

I am running 4 of the 8" Bullet Hollow Points powered by a Boston Acoustic G24 amp and they sound great and have alot of midbass. They sound as good as the speakers in my boat but way louder.
