You've heard the rumors, and it's true. To set the record straight, Darin is in the process of selling his properties here in Florida and moving to the Hawaiian islands in the next year. His home/Camp property is one of those up for grabs. Some lucky person will be able to own that little slice of heaven call RTS.

A surfing retirement at 33? Sounds good to me!

Awesome. Good for Darin.

I guess when you leave Florida, Wakeboarding is officially lowered on the priority list.

Good luck to Darin. He is definitely the man.

He loves the sport so much... having the health issues he's been experiencing (seriously inhibiting his riding) is torture, I'm sure - he probably has to separate himself from wakeboarding completely in order to not be devastated every day... Just like a good relationship that has come to an end. It's painful to be near something you love and not have the ability to "access" it.

Darin will take his excellence to whatever he does next, I'm sure... he left such a huge mark on the wakeboarding industry. Still the most successful (fiscally, winningest) professional wakeboarder in history, I believe. And who can forget the guy's riding style... pure power.

wow, it really is "the end of an era." It sure was an honor to see him win the legend award at the WBM awards. I only wish I could have seen him ride in person because I'm sure it would have been unforgettable. I can only wish him the best in hawaii, and thanks for the memories.

Which island? I can hook him up on the North Shore with the Pipeline Posse. They can show him the ropes of the big waves.

Sad to see him go. Definately the end of an awesome legacy. Good luck to Darin in whatever he does!

i dont really understand how it is the end of a legacy. a legacy is something left in the past. yeah seeing Darin Shapiro do that speedball was pretty sweet. what injuries did/does he have? im sure its knees...

I am sure living in Hawaii is going to be a drag *sarcasm* Health issues are not something to joke about and that was mostly caused by his career. All the best to Darin and his future.

The only picture I have of him on my computer, it by no means does him justice (But does show his patriotism).

Nice!!! He will like the Wailua River. I had a chance to meet him at the 2004 US Wakeboard Open. A special plus for him will be that the Malibu dealer lives on that river (Greg Allen) and they do a lot for the skiing/wakeboarding community over there.

Maybe he can ride with "The Fly'n Hawaiian" when he comes back to Kauai every-now-and-then

I saw the end of something like an infomercial last night that Darin was mentioned in. It was a new method of lower back treatment. I sent a note to ridethespot because I didnt catch the name of the specific machine that apparently he has been using It was called something like a dsr 900 or something like that. I am looking at a 4th surgery and from what I have briefly heard last night using this contraption helps open up spacing so disc's arent under so much pressure.
Has anyone seen or heard of such a treatment? I have a call into my Doc's but havent heard back yet. If anyone has any info please post as I am at the end of a different rope!
Old     (wellsrts)      Join Date: Feb 2006       01-16-2007, 3:56 PM Reply
its called the DRX 9000. it pulls your spine apart so the fluid can rush back in to replenish the vitality of the discs. great machine, most chiropractors have one on site now.

greg,
the drx 9000 and the lordex are essentially the same machine. they do spinal decompression, which is like traction. I went through 30 treatments for a herniated disc on the machine and it didn't do any good for me, but the machine might do some good for people with less severe injuries. I would never recommend it for somebody with a herniation though after my experience
