I recently bought a 2000 Moomba Kamberra that came with tower speakers. The tower cannisters are in great shape, but I think the speakers could be upgraded. Has anyone here ever purchased new speakers and used the existing cannisters? Any recomendations of places to purchase? I have looked on Ebay - but only notice the full set up or speakers for the interior of the boat.

thanks for the help!

I replaced the speakers in my Samson cans. It took a little bit of retrofitting, especially with the tweeters. If your cans are using coax speakers you should be fine without much tweeking just get the same size speaker. The grilles also all seem to have different diameters so getting a perfect grill fit might give you fits.

What kind of cans are they?

The cans are Liquid Audio with just the speakers in front. Here is a link...

I have noticed that on my speakers there are only 3 screws holding the grill and speaker to the can. All the speakers I have found use 4. Obviously this is a problem......

Any suggestions?

The cans that you have are made from PVC pipe.
Liquid Audio glues a chunk of PVC to the in side of the can for the mounting holes.
The can should fit most 6.5 speakers.

I have the same cans. Our cans cam with Sony speakers, and I replaced them with Polk Audio after the first year.

David, I have also been looking at Polk speakers. I used to have Polk Audio in my car and liked them a lot. Do your cans also have the 3 screw design or 4? If 3, did you have to drill new holes to mount a Polk speaker?
Do you remember which speakers you got? That might help me make a decision faster - without getting the wrong style.
Also - did the Polk speakers make a pretty big difference?
