It's all in the boat driving. :-) James was that from this summer before you went back to school? It looks like the board with the huge WALKER chrome sticker on it.

How fast were you going ? Looks pretty fast

I was going 10.5. (I think you were asking about the second video.) It was this summer before school. And I'm not sure if it was all boat driving. If I can quote Bill from the last stop at Villa Lagos, "That Takes Skill".

James-I was actually referring more to the 1st vid but both actually look fast. Its probably just the video itself. If thats you in the 2nd vid I would have to say you have all the skillz brotha !!!

He still needs to get used to the pocket and gets a little intimidated when he gets close to the boat but he killed it so hard for his 1st time behind a boat. (He was stomping these back to back among other tricks with the rope) Dang 15 yr olds...

We normally run at 10.5 as well although I've found I like 10.7 better when my legs are still fresh.

Sean James & Jeff, fine surfing action on your videos. I watched them over and over. I know the specs on Jeff's boat, but what is the make, model and weighting on your boat, Sean? Thanks.

I usually ride behind my sister's 04 Malibu VLX and after 2 years we're still playing with the weighting. We recently started running without the Wedge which cleaned up the wake a lot but we still need to add a little something. It's a lot better then what we previously had but still doesn't have the drive as Clubmyke's Nautique which is a literal launchpad when you hit the lip.

Sean, thanks for the info and awesome pics. As you guys can see, I STILL haven't bought a boat. I definitely want to surf both front side and back side. These boats are expensive, and I dont want to blow it. And on top of that, Im a penny pinching accountant not accustomed to making big purchases. Keep posting those videos. Lets see that Nautique!

Nice air Sean. Are you able to get any rotation w/ that air for a 180/360? Come on Jim, I think James Walker is an accountant and he's sportn' a big wake.
Old    surfdad            09-05-2006, 4:18 AM Reply
James is the teenager, Jeff is the CPA. :-) Jim, I had the same reservations...oh shoot, 8 years ago before we bought the boat, but I have never regretted it. Send me a PM and I can give you a strategy to make the purchase pretty much free over the course of a few years.

Curtis- I just started trying bs and fs 360s yesterday. I'm over-rotating my backsides and under-rotating my frontsides (but have "somewhat" landed 1 of each)
Old     (dentard)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-05-2006, 9:51 PM Reply
Sean- let's get that vid!
Jeff- What will it take to share a strategy w/ me?
Old    surfdad            09-06-2006, 5:42 AM Reply
Curtis you already have one! :-) You have a legitimate business in the boat.

Sean, aerial 3's FS and BS? You're OVER rotating the BS's in the air? Sick.
Old     (caskimmer)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-06-2006, 7:05 AM Reply
Yea, I'm throwing it too hard and keep doing bs 390 airs.
Old    surfdad            09-06-2006, 7:29 AM Reply
When did you retire from the US Olympic gymnastics team?! :-) In the air? You're not spinning the last little bit on the surface? I want to see that, Sean...break out the video cam!!!!!
Old     (caskimmer)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-06-2006, 7:46 AM Reply
I've also been a snowboarder since 1990 and use to be able to throw bs900s and any 720 variation.
(I can also do 360s over a spine on a skateboard which helps A LOT)

Unrelated question. That isn't skatelite on the surface, it looks like ply?

James can do wild stuff over the spine behind the boat - superman and 360's aerials, but not coming back down into the same wake.

Don't tell me that I am going to need to build a spine and run up on his ramp, so he can practice the aerial 3's !!!!!!! :-)

it's just regular 1/4" Masonite with Thompson's waterseal.

Not one of my better 360's but the only one I have on video. On a phase 5 prop, behind a '06 x-2.

Het KH, not a surface 3, an aerial 3...Sean is saying he boosts air and does the 3 while the board is in the air. I'm looking for that on video. Nice clip, though.

I'll post it as soon as I land one
Old    surfdad            09-07-2006, 7:15 AM Reply
Post the attempt Sean...I just want to see the orientation on take off, if you're garbbing to keep the board with you and how much air you have to boost to get more than 270 degrees in the rotation. I would think you would have a HUGE amount of windup or you're dropping from the lip down into the trough. I promise not to judge you on style points. :-)
Old     (caskimmer)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-07-2006, 7:41 AM Reply
no grab, slows down the rotation (hmm, maybe I should be grabbing the backsides)

and the more I think about it, alley-oop airs over a frontside hip (on a skateboard) would be better practice than a spine. Shannon's ramp had both.

I'm still interested in how you are coming back down into the wake. James has that 4 foot high half pipe, that would seem to be the better way of practicing...OH! are you rotating off axis? Shoot, just post the vid! :-)

aw c'mon Jeff, all of a sudden I have a pretty cool accomplishment in my sights. Don't make me give up my secrets before I get a chance to correct my mistakes.

...but I will put up a video grab demonstrating what I'm doing wrong.

looks like a little more than halfway through the rotation I stop spinning my upper body. (this a frontside)

Looks like a bad fashion air. :-) I'm sure you'll land it Sean, I'm just interested in the approach, that's 80% of the trick.
Old     (caskimmer)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-07-2006, 8:37 AM Reply
yeah, the approach is vital.

Sean, great video and beautiful wake! Is that your sister's Malibu producing that clean wake?
Old     (caskimmer)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-21-2006, 4:42 PM Reply
yes it is Jim, unfortunately we can't get the other side to look that good

Does anyone know if it's possible to reverse the drive/ rotation on a Malibu?

edit: better yet does anyone from Centurion want to loan me a reverse drive Enzo to film on for a couple of months?

Caddymaster, you just like it because it begins with a shot of your boat!!

BTW- these are all "C" clips that I'm not bothering to keep on the hard drive. What I'm working on is going to be really cool!!!
