I am thinking about buying tsunami tower speakers or the polk momo speakers. which ones are better ? or are they both junk? if possible i don't wanna spend more than 500 canadian for a pair of half decent tower speakers

In your budget I would recommend the Monster tower <www.monstertower.com> single barrel Polks. I don't know anything about the Tsunami's.

I dont know anything about tsunami speakers but the Momo's sound really good. Are you looking for sound back to the rider or while just in the boat ? If its just for the boat the Momo's are a good choice.

what about the Titan Alphas? Do they handle enough sound to hear while boarding if properly amped?

My budget allowed me to buy the double barrel polks from Monstertower and they sound awesome for the money.

Fes-The Titans use MB Quarts which are great sounding speakers but are not the most efficient. Its really hard to get a car audio speaker to reach the rider. If you want the sound to the rider go with the horn driver type speakers such as NVS or the new Skylon

I am looking for a great speaker for an Illusion X tower. I don't thin the Skylon can mount on it??? Don't know about the NVS.

Festivus, I know I've seen the NVS Addictions mounted to an Illusion, and I'm pretty sure the new NVS model is able to mount to an Illusion also.

So the Skylon Illusion X is specifically made for that tower. Nice. It looks like a good speaker, you think it'd have better sound than the Titan Alphas- for the board rider?

Fest, don't mess around, get the NVS. They are a force of nature.

Had the MB quarts the were fine, then I went with the best NVS. They mount to an illusion just fine

I like the Tian Alplas just for weight, they're only 7lbs. But you need a 4 pack for sure

On the flip side i've heard the NVS are the cream of the crop

is one pair of Addictions adequate? Would 2 pair be complete overkill or the shizzle? It looks like you could easily mount 2 pair on the Illusion X, yes?

Actually, upon closer review, the two sets of addictions may cause a loft of traumatic headaches? How much headroom is there under the speakers on the illusion X?
addictions on an illusion x

Festi,
The single pair in the pic are mounted directly over the seat. You'd have to stand up on the seat in order to hit one.
Putting anything in the center span of the crossing tube could prove to be painfull. As you may know, the crossing tube on the X is only 6 feet off the floor.

and 1 pair is good enough to hear at 70' or so? Properly amped, of course...

Festivus, one pair is good enough to hear at 700 feet or so. Yes, I said 700. (Properly amped, of course.)

With the NVS Addictions on the Illusion tower, is the bimini still functionable with the speakers mounted?

David, Jay ( 04 GG XLV) in Houston just picked up a pair...you've got the luxury to hear them before you buy

I have had people tell me they can hear lyrics nice and clear with my NVS at 1/2 mile or so.

Back to the question at hand - for under $500 canadian - I would not forget about a pair of Evid 6.2. Most everything I see above is out of your price range by a long shot.

Does anyone run 2 pair of Addictions? Can you fit 4 of them on an illusion x tower?
Old     (auto)      Join Date: Aug 2002       01-31-2006, 2:47 PM Reply
That is my boat in the pic, have several drunk friends over 6' no head injuries yet. I have 500 going to each, although duane recommends a little less. Nice and clear at 70'.

What does everyone think of the Infinity 6100M setup?

I am running a V8 I/O boat with a tower and through hull exhaust and want to be able to jam while we are boarding at 80 feet. Gets very loud. Not on an unlimited budget either I am married with kids, so any suggestions.

Love the monster tower stuff as, that is what my tower is that I am running and they are killer products.

However, when it comes to audio I know it is a whole different game. You know how much sound is enough is my question. What speakers? What amp? how big?

Cluless!

Thanks
Greg

Any ones thoughts on that set up?

What's your budget??? "jam while we are boarding" => music for boarder? not for boaters while boarding, right. I would suggest something pro-audio if it's intended for the rider. Something like NVS, there is lots of new stuff just on the market as well.

You're just showing off if you need 2 pair of addictions :-). A pair of them is more than adequate.

I'm running 400 rms to each and the gain is turned way down.

NVS used to have a price on their site for 2 pair of NVS if you were totally insane.

anyone have more pics of the nvs on the illusion tower. I've seen the ones on wakesade but I want to see them from a far with the whole boat in it. Also how do they sound at lower volume? And honestly how do they look, I've heard that they look "homemade"? Is this true. Man i wish someone in San Diego had a pair so I can see them and hear them.

Hey guys thanks for the input and maybe I can paint a more clear picture of what I am trying to achieve.

I am working with $1000-$1500 in total money.

Now I need the people in the boat to hear of course, but also want the riders to hear the music. (boarding, tube, knee-boarding, what ever.)

You see I have young children and love the idea of the PA talk back system on the Infinity 6100M system. But I can buy the amps alone with different speakers and still achieve this. I know it drives my costs way up and if the 6100M system will be loud enough that is all I am looking for but not sure on how much sound and quality it can push out.

I know it is a box system and no one is going to hear the lyrics 1 mile away but I am not shooting for that, The only issue is that I am running a custom made fourwinns boat with a 393 stroker with straight thru-hull exhaust out the sides this year for the first time and it gets noisy.

So we need to be able to hear the music and the PA system over the engine.

Now all of this on a budget, do I go for the box system 6100M from infinity?
I do not know how loud and clear it is?
I have never heard this system and would like to know from someone who has heard it in action.

If you guys don't think that will cut it what do you suggest? I want to do it right and keep it real all at the same time.

Thanks for everything to all of you who have responded,
Greg

Greg- I havent heard the 6100M but had 2 sets of Infinity Kappas on my tower awhile back. I was pushing about 300watts to each set. They sounded great around the boat but in no way would they project back to the rider. I honestly doubt that the packaged Infinity setup could be any better, probably not even as good as my old setup. Now like Mikeski suggested there is alot of new stuff that has come to market like, Wetsounds, Skylon rubicons, and of course NVS. Except for NVS these others are very new and it has yet to be determined how well they sound in the boat and to the rider.
