Engine Size?

I am looking to get a new boat and I want to make sure I have enough power.

What size engines does everyone have who is putting 2-3000lbs of weight in their boat?

How big is the boat you are looking at?

22 foot. It would be a new boat Malibu/Tige or something similar.

atleast a 350/330 hp or something like that

I have the Hammerhead engine in my Malibu VLX, we usually run about 2300 pounds and have had 2800 pounds + people. Had no problems getting up to speed.

How are you guys measuring weight? I have a SAN with 310 hp and I don't think it can handle 3,000 lbs + people. If it can, I don't think the wake would clean below 30 mph. I run an honest 1600 lbs (400 lbs in stock ballast tanks + twenty-four 50 lb lead plates). I ride in shallow salt water, which lessens the wake, and it is still pretty darn big with just a couple people in the boat. I hear the VLX needs a ton of weight, and that SAN's really don't. But seriously, other than the VLX, what boats need, or even run well, with 2000 lbs plus. I kinda think we're experiencing some weight inflation here.

The san can take 3000 lbs. and the wake is still clean. The same with the old x-star and also the malibu VLX which are right now the best boats out or at least have the best wake. The also all come with a minumum of a 310 hp engine which will get it up to speed nicely. Then you have options to upgrade from. I would say to run 2-3000 lbs and not have problems then get at least the 310 hp.

What do you consider to 3000 lbs? Are we talking 6 totally full Fat Sacks?
