I have been looking for a boat for awhile now and i dont have a bunch of money to spend so i want to make sure what i get will work for me.....i am a beginner with my fundamentals and this will be my first boat to own....

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/boa/1242807856.html

i think i will be able to get this boat for about 10.5K which would leave me with 4k to buy a tower, prop, ballast, and pp if i spend it right (buy some new but mostly used)

This one is more finished but i dont know much about the sportstar but one thing i dont like is the idea of not having an open bow for extra seating....
Which one do you guys think would be my best bet or am i just way off for the money?

If you can spend 14.5 I would keep looking for a v-drive. It may not have a tower or ballast, but those can be added later on. You can't make a dd a vd (well not cheaply) :-)

i'd get the 205 and add your own tower, ballast, ect.

i have a 205, great boat.

any v-drive for 14000 will not be anywhere as nice as either of those boats (no tower or ballast), you can always upgrade boats in a few years.

The Sportstar will have an ok wake, but you will probably find more problems with not having an open bow. I would opt for an open bow even if I had to sacrifice in the wake department which should not be the case with the 205. You will have more room for passengers and I like being able to get to the front of the boat with ease when docking.

A 92 PS205 is a good boat, but the later hulls were deeper and better for boarding. I had a 92 PS190 for a couple years, and it had wood coaming pads and center floor sections that needed to be replaced by the time I got it in 98. In a direct drives the Malibu Sunsetter LX, Supra Sunsport/Launch, Sport Nautique, or 95+ PS205 would all be better choices IMO.

With 14k to spend, though, I too say keep looking for a V-drive.
