I'm a college student with hardly any money. I've been saving up for a couple of years now and finally have a chunk of change. I can get a good deal on a 25' Maristar. My question is whether this boat will make a decent sized wake. It has a tower and 400 lbs ballast. Let me know what you'll think. I'm a beginner-intermedite rider but I want a boat that I can progress with. I want to hear from other Maristar owners or previous users to see what it was like to wakeboard behind.

25 is a big boat if you are tight on money go with a older closed bow or someting in that type. Smaller boats dont need as much weight to produce good wakes so you will save money on ballast as well. Also a smaller boat will give you a little narrower wake wich is a better way to go if you are still starting out.

a maristar is a great boat, but will require loads of ballast to create a decent wake.. Erik gives good advice at trying to find an older closed bow boat....less ballast--better fuel efficiency and lower cost of operation... good luck w/ your decision!

Hey Chris I tell everyone trying to buy a used old boat this. Have you considered buying a new boat? You can buy a Moomba outback for around 28,000. They are a great boat and has a nice wake with sacks of course. You said you had a nice chunk of change. Not sure how much you have but if its like 10k,and you put that down, your payments would not be squat. They would be like 200$ a month.Of course you may have to have your parents co-sign.Im just throwing it out there.I was in your same situation when I started out. Also if thats not your price range look at Moombas that are a year or two old. There the best boat for that price range.
