demo, demo, demo...

then make your own call. you are the only one who has to like it... and pay for it.

The 02 is way overpriced. Get the new boat.

I am in the same situaton. I am comparring a new 05 Mobius LSV with an 02 Xstar (120 hours). The Mobius is about $37k and the Xstar is ~ $39k. I test drove the LSV and liked it, but felt that the freeboard height was low. I haven't test driven the Xstar, but the height of the freeboard seems higher. Psudy, what do you feel is a good selling price for an 02 Xstar?

I bought my 01 in 02 for 38K with about 120 hrs. The boat is loaded with extras. I would pay up to 38 with low low hrs. Keep in mind it is almost 4years old. With 280hrs, I would offer 34-36K. You could buy the '02 in '02 new for 44K

I was just going to say 35K, a friend of mine picked up a new 04 X2 last summer for 39K
one thing you might want to consider is the LSV will depreciate way faster than the 02 xstar

Jason ~ Really,He bought a brand new X2 in 04 for 39k...WOW he got some deal!!

Thats what I thought. He did only get the base 310HP engine and no extras on it. Also different friend of his that I don't know is a salesperson at the dealership.

The guy I ski with all the time picked up his 02 Star for $35,500 with 155 on the hour meter. I think the price on the MC is way too high. Keep shoping and you will find one

How is the x-star wake (with balast empty and wake plate adjusted appropriately) for the infrequent ski run?
Old     (skibum69)      Join Date: Aug 2004       05-12-2005, 10:16 AM Reply
There is no wakeplate on the x-stars. the 02 xstar hull is the prostar 205 hull, which is pretty darn good for a ski wake. The xstar will have a slightler taller but soft wake for skiing, as long as you remeber to drain the ballast
Old     (psudy)      Join Date: Dec 2003       05-12-2005, 10:18 AM Reply
The wake on the old star(now x2 hull) is pretty good for skiing. I run the course all the time with ours. They don't have a wakeplate though. IF you are refering to the new style, I would bet that the wake is not very good.
Old    chuba            05-12-2005, 10:20 AM Reply
Okay. I'm learning. Then how does the Xstar wakeboard wake compare with the LSV wakeboard wake?
Old     (skibum69)      Join Date: Aug 2004       05-12-2005, 10:31 AM Reply
I have only been out in a moomba a few times so it's only my opinion but, the xstar(02) will be a steaper peak and firmer. The moomba in my experiance has been softer, wider and a shallower ramp style peak. I prefer the xstar(02) wake, but again thats my preference, I know people that like the Moomba better, because it's not so intimadating

If he got the X series it was still pretty loaded and 39k is an awsome price.
Old     (damned04)      Join Date: May 2005       05-12-2005, 6:00 PM Reply
Gave my mastercraft dealer a call today, they could do 41k on the 02 xstar. It has perfectpass, ballast, heater, sterio, amp and tower speakers (2). Seems like a reasonable price to me

Damned ~ That is a 3 year old boat! The one I was talking about was 04 X2 for 39k and this was last year so the boat was BRAND NEW!!

Dammed,

The LSV is wider and feels much roomier than the X2. The X2 is much more plush inside, and the details in quality will be evident when you look closely. The motors, and drivetrains' will be very similar so no issues there. The wake on the LSV will be a bit wider but very similar in steepness if you are using the Gravity Games ballast. It looks like the X2 has tower speakers, and racks, the Moomba doesn't ($750.00-$1k) in options. The Moomba tower is low slung and can be a pain if you want speakers mounted below. I like the idea of buying a new boat better in my opinion. With a new boat there isn't any confusion as to what's transferable and what isn't, and I'm very biased towards Skier's Choice as far as customer support.

Ed, I'm not sure if you'd consider the boat he got as loaded, here is what it has.
Standard X2, tower, racks, tower anchor light.
Wakeboard PP
Stock CD player
stock speakers

he added later:
aftermarket sub
aftermarket amps

Dammed,
IMO I would go with the MC, because personally I would rather buy a used Mercedes, BMW, Audi than a brand new KIA, Chevy Caviler. But that my opinion. Price out the Moomba witht he option you want, I see it has no tower speakers or racks, so they might end up being closer in price than you are first led to believe.

That is a pretty expensive $35K Kia? The comparison is probably more like a Mercedes to a VW. But anyway the Skiers Choice owner in me is getting defensive...either way you go you'll have a blast. Personally get the new boat if you are going to keep it for a while, if this is a two year, sell, then upgrade buy the used boat you'll save yourself money on the depreciation.

I don't understand why you would even consider a used Mastercraft for $41k. Are the boats that awesome? I have a '04 Moomba with all the options and I paid $35k brand new from the boat show. I purchased the stereo, speaker and amp combination I wanted because I didn't pay $41k. I have never ridden in a Mastercraft so I can't say that they suck but I am just wondering is this boat honestly worth $41k. This is my second summer and I love my Moomba LSV; our friends have a 02 Tige and I would rather not go on their boat. Just wondering why the hype, not bagging on Mastercraft.

Andrew, You can listen to other people tell you what to do all day long. I suggest you consider what is important to you and base your decision on that. For me the wake is the most important thing and I would not compromise on that at all. I'd rather spend 40k on a used X-2/Old X-Star than buy any of the Moomba's. I look at my favorite wakes 1. MC X2 2. SANTE 3. 2005 Supra 21V (Or last years Launch 21 Direct Drive). Next I'd consider the dealerships themselves and the service you'll get after the purchase. I like the X2 over the new X-Star and would never buy an X-Star. If you've never rode behind one then you don't know what you're missing. Take them out on a test drive and see for yourself.

You might also want to go out to http://www.soulriders.com/forums/
and speak with a few of us there. I had an 05' X2 till it burnt over the winter in a fire, a friend had an 02 SANTE, it burnt in the same fire, and has on 05' on order, there are also some Supra/Moomba, Malibu, etc.... We've all rode on each other’s boats and we all have our personal favorites but they'd all give you an honest review. I can personally speak to the service that you'd get from Will Forgie in the service area at Chicago Mastercraft (Now owned by Riverview Marine) and the staff there. They are very active in the wakeboard community. Mark Michelini (Midwest Militia) is the Manager there and Vince (Raging Buffalo) also works there.

Good luck on the choice, hope you make one in enough time to enjoy the summer.

not really a big fan of tige although i have nothing against them

should have bought a tige? come on.

anyway, "That is a pretty expensive $35K Kia? The comparison is probably more like a Mercedes to a VW." Do you think wakeboard boats are built with the same quality and craftsmanship as a BMW or Mercedes? IMO, the top 3 cannot even come close to top the quality of these manufactures. If BMW produced a wakeboard boat, I know, yay, yay it would be by far - top of its class.

That x2 is way overpriced..I bought mine brand new for around that..The 02 X2 is the old xstar hull..which is awesome for wakeboarding and very nice for water skiing as well. You should really look around for a better deal. Also, the Moomba is a nice boat but you will see a pretty big difference in the quality of the interior and workmanship.

Way to be a shmuck after the guy has bought his boat... Damned got a great boat for a decent price.

1) Tennessee is THE place to buy wakeboarding boats--best prices hands down.

2) According the data from NADA--Mastercraft does better at holding its resale value than any wakeboard boat.

Also wanted to add that the 2002 X-2 was the most expensive and most inclusive of any of the 205V series X-Stars. The 2002 year was actually the best year to compare the X-Star and SANTE when looking at standard features. When the AP1 hull came out (the new X-Star) the 205V/X-2 kinda became the budget boat. :-) Helluva budget boat!

You'll be really happy with the service you get now that the shop is under new managment. Will is an awesome mechanic. The service after the sale can make or break your opinion of any boat you buy. Congrats on the boat...btw, I have the stock prop off my 05' if you're looking for a spare prop.

That is a great shop, Will has been taking care of my Mobius for a year and my buddies Malibu for five years. Service dept there couldn't be better (even for us non Mastercraft owners).
