guys,

i paint a lot of surf art, but have recently fallen in love with wakeboarding. my question to you all is- is there a market for some good wakeboard art (for ex: oil on canvas paintings)?

i have been thinking about diving in to the wakeboarding world with my art....

my work can be seen at: www.thesurfersoul.com

let me know if you guys would consider buying stuff of this subject.

Dave - I've seen your art, and it is awesome. Maybe you should look into getting a booth set-up at one of the PWT events next year. I doubt you'd sell much at the event, but at least you could display them, talk to people, give them your card etc. Just to test the water (no pun intended).

My thought would be that target market for wakeboarding art would be young people (although I haven't seen your work as the link is dead). Unfortunately younger people buy more posters then oil paintings. So turn the art into cheap prints and sell those (I'm sure the real artists will hate me for saying that). Something kids can put up in their rooms (besides swimsuit calendars and Tiger Beat cutouts).

i will walt. if i do one it will hit ebay. i sell a pretty fair amount of surf art prints/paintings. my girlfriend thinks wakeboarders dont have any $ to spend on art (as if surfers do), but i guess i havent explained to her what a new mastercraft costs....

anyway- i definetly need a break from surf art for a bit, i love it but the surf art will just get better if i stop for awhile...if you guys know of any sick wakeboarding pics that really have some soul to them post em for me!!

I love your work David! I would be interested in wakeboarding art because I have our board rack in our front room! One of your paintings would look perfect in here! Let us know if you decide to go for it!

Hi David,
Great work. I think it is a good idea to do that with wakeboarding.
Tell us if you do it, and post a pic.

http://www.choicewake.com

I got sent that site a while ago from a post on here looking for art as one that at least had some wakeboarding posters. I actually wanted posters (or even a decent mat) a little more artsy than those offer, and maybe a bit longer distance shots. I dont really expect to be able to afford original art myself, but with enough people on here spending thousands to put in a stereo, the market is probably there.

As my one friend put it, she's like "Gerald, when you got girls in here, you don't want them asking about who the rider is, you just want them curious about wakeboarding and thus you!"

David your surf art is amazing. I would love to see some wake art but I'm not sure how it would measure up to your surf art. Those painting just make me miss surfing.

well guys thanks for the input so far. it seems like wakeboarding art could work. wakeboarding offers alot of incredible, scenic images and i think it might translate well.

I would think there would be at least a little market out there(or in here). I'm sure you don't do it ONLY for money, so i say go for it. It's something i could see myself wanting. What are we talking on prices? There are alot of GREAT pictures that have been posted on here. Hell BillJ could probably post a thousand by himself.

David,
I as well am impressed and also would be very interested. I like how you caught the spiritual side of surfing but wakeboarding is not as peaceful and spiritual as surfing. what gets me going, when it comes to the sentimental side of wakeboarding, is doubleups. whether it be the natural motion water coming together at a precise second or the huge amounts of conteracting forces being exerted at a split second sending yourself into an on the edge out of body experience. no i have not been smoking but would be very happy to purchase a print of a tweaked out grap while holding on for dear life.

just my input....not that you need it. your style of art is right on IMO.

I agree, the Double up is like the greatest part of wakeboarding just how everything meets together. No other sport can you get booted like with a double up.
