Just bought a 2001 Sunsport V this last weekend. Has anyone with this boat loaded it down for a surf wake? If so, what setup are you running ballast-wise?

Hey Matt. I also have an 01 Sunsport V. Keep my email address for future reference should you have any questions. kcfunk@hotmail.com

I've owned the boat since this spring. We have thought about adding more ballast, but have had so much fun with the boat this season, we never got around to it.

I was able to surf behind the boat (it wasn't a huge wake, but definitely serviceable), with human ballast alone. We had about 4 grown adults along the port side...one of wich on the sunpad and were able to surf it.

I've wakeboarded behind an MB 23v Team edition and a Centurion Elite V this summer...both of which had ballast and while the Sunsport does not through as large a wake as either of those (merely based on displacement), this boat throws one of the cleanest and consistent wakes of any boat I've been behind. Seems like the sweet spot for us is about 500 pounds of human ballast, 21.7 MPH, wakeplate all the way up and 60'....I'm no pro but have had plenty of fun with that setup.

By the way, my slalom skier friends also LOVE the boat at about 34 MPH with the plate all the way down....they've never gotton out of the water on one ski so easy...pops em right out.

All around, while we'll most likely chuck a couple of fat sacs in down the road, we're really happy with the boat.Upload
