Nice place actually. There is a resort there that has an island. We rented half the island and had a blast. Best water is in the morning like usual. Gets windy in the afternoon. But you can take an afternoon break and cliff jump. On our side of the island we had a 35ft and 60ft cliff.

We used to go in mid August and there was not a big crowd. But the last time I went was 2 years ago. I would like to go back and check it out now. If you go, let us know how it is.

Have you tried Lake Cushman near Hoodsport WA? Awesome and empty usually.

Lake Rife is right next to Mayfield and alot less crowded at least the last time I went a few years ago.

We will be going there in late June, already booked Billy chinook and Prineville for July and August. I know the resort you talked about that's the one we are looking at.

I used to compete there along with Collin Wright. Man I remember the water being really smooth but colder than heck. Bring a drysuit I would say.

I went to a tournament at lake mayfield a couple years ago. The water was super choppy. It's a fun place to camp though. You should go to lake Sammamish. The water is always calm.

www.lakemayfield.com might have some information for you about the size or the city of Tacoma website or maybe it is Tacoma Power website (I think one of them run the lake).

Sorry Sarah..but I beg to differ about Lk. Sammamish. It is only a step better than Lk. Washington, which is known has a mini ocean.

I won't board Sammamish or Washington if I don't have to and I live (and have a dock) on the Lk. Washington. Within one to two hours of Seattle are several great hidden lakes where I see only one or two boats (plus a couple of lil fishing boats) all day.

If you want to know about a great hidden lake that is butter most of the day with camping available e-mail me and I will give out some secret lake info. Don't want to release them live on the site, don't want to fill them up, then they won't be secret anymore and might get busy.

Sammamish is fine in the mornings, so is Washington. You just have to get up with the waterskiiers to get the calm water.

After about 10am during the regular season, Sammamish is a zoo, ditto for Washington.

Bruce, I have been to Lake Mayfield once. The camping sites are cool (the first and last time my wife went camping) and the lake is big. There are a few fingers that go way back where you might find some protected water. Lots of interesting/scary people at the public park and boat launch and on a weekend, it got pretty choppy, but was glass all morning. If you went during the weekdays, I think you could find some great water.

Bring your fishing rods if you are into fishing. They have the biggest Tiger Muskies in that lake this side of the Mississippi. No joke!

Yeah, at the end of last Summer when I started wakeboarding we went early in the morning ( in the water between 6 and 6.30 a.m. ) to the north end of lake Washnigton and most times the water was really smooth.
