slider question

I'm building a slider and its going to be an "A" frame shape. The top center piece is right at 20 feet. Its going to be floating so I was wondering from you guys that have experience, how many barrels will I need to support it. I was thinking about every 6 feet or so having one on each side of the center piece. This would put me at 6 barrels. Are 6 barrels enough to support this thing because it's starting to get pretty heavy the farther I get into it? Thanks.

how long will your uprails be? a slide shorter than 40 feet or so will get boring VERY quickly.

8 barrels on a 48 foot wood framed, plywood sheathed flatbar worked perfectly for us.

Floating is the easy part, anchoring is what you have to get right. Elastic sections in the anchor lines so it can ride out wakes and tides is the way to go as opposed to shooting for a very heavy and tensioned anchor system.

Luke, I was thinking the uprail would probably be around 8 feet. The rail will be sitting about 4 feet out of the water. I would like to have a nice slope to the top without it being too aggressive or too mellow. What do you think, is 8 feet gonna accomplish that?

Nate, what did you use for the elastic parts? Would bungee straps attached at the end work?

Dude... 8 feet will never work. You'll be off of it before you even know you're on. Remember... you are going at least 20mph :-)

You need at least 15 ft on either side and that would still be kinda lame. Luke is right on the money any rail with less than 40 feet gets old fast.

Sorry for the previous post... kinda dick and not helpful.

But for realz... you gotta go longer. 6 barrels will support 30ft no problem so flotation isn't your concern and remember, wood floats too. Here is our A Frame converted to a rooftop. 2x4s are cheap so hit up Lowes and make it longer!!!! This is 30ft I believe and it could definitely be longer:

Luker I think he's saying 8 ft transfer, 20 flat, 8 ft transfer for a total of:

36'

So his question about 8' is "will 8' give me a suitable angle to reach the flat section at 4' out of the water or do I need to change this?"
