So the other day I was doubling with my friend and we had a mix up in communication and he ended up right behind me for some reason and fell, but when he fell his rope handle got wrapped around my boot and before i knew it was there i let go of my rope and i got dragged about 30 ft. until my board wripped off. Im lucky my ankle didnt break or something

Has this ever happened to anyone? How can we communicate better when doubling?

Just stay away from each other?

Pottsy, no offense , but if your age is correct (profile) , you will continue to do stuff (like this) that will be stupid and crazy, keep your fingers crossed that you make it thru that stage w/o doing any permanent damage. It worked for me. The only way to get better at riding doubles is to ride doubles more and with someone you know.

Find a better driver/spotter combo, or atleast learn to tell a better story.

I have seen a few injuries from rope and handles and still have a scar from one of them. We have this on the tower all the time and have used it twice this summer - both times riding doubles.

The best observer/driver team in the world wouldn't get the boat stopped in less than a second.

Riding double always has greater risks. It would help if the lines were the same length so that one can't be behind the other.

I wish my boat could go from wakeboard speed to a dead stop in thirty feet.

Pistakee lake is blown out bad pretty much all the time. I will ride it every once in a while before work, at like 5 AM. When do you usually ride?

yea, I get out there at 7:00 and ride till around 8:30 or nine, after that its basically impossible... and it doesnt get any better at the end of the day either. We own a house out there so thats the only reason i ride there.

Riding doubles is dangerous and should only be performed by attentive riders. You need to be aware at all times of where the other rider is and what his intentions are, and you need to trust that he is doing the same.

Given that that has already been taken into consideration, maybe rope length was a problem? Was his rope much longer than yours? I personally have never heard of that happening - probably freak accident.

i was wake surfing. as i was taking up the slack in my left/back hand to get into position, i fell and my arm went through the loops and i got drug around the lake for about 20-30secs by my rist. Ya it hurt...but no damage...other then rope burn, swelling and bruising.

a lesson to all you kids out there: dont take up the slack in you hands when wakesurfing!

What kind of boat are you in? I have probably seen you out there.

I go out with my friend in a little speed boat, not sure what it is... but It has no tower so it kinda sucks... and sometimes if i dont go with him I have to ride behind a friggen deck boat... what about you?

Pottsy My point is a good/attentive spotter will minimize any injuries and lessen the risk factor. Depending on how much of a newbie you are (and your fellow riders for that matter) i would stay away from tandem/double unless you have a safety release like the one mentioned earlier. And as Rod mentioned, I would go with the lines of same length so an incident such as the one that happened to you will not happen.

Depends on the day, 06' X-Star, X45, X1, and lately an 04' MB B52 V3. If you see any wakeboard boats with Chicago MasterCraft stickers on it, wave them down its probably me.

Adam-Yea I work at Chicago MasterCraft. Mikey's good. Busy helpin out Keith at Raging Buffalo Wakeboard School and at the firehouse. Where do you ride at? I remember seeing a purple Nautique not to long ago by the river.

We typically ride right down the river on the mornings. My buddy lives right on the bend in the river that takes you toward McHenry. Look for the house with the Beer signs and the Palm tree at the bend. Otherwise we hit the cove near Freddies or Pistakee. I want to get up to Marie sometime but work is killing me as does Mikey, he's an angry driver on Sunday mornings with Keith. Hilarious. Shoot me an email or I will stop by the shop sometime, would love a pull behind an X-star, though Keith's X-2 is pretty sweet. Sorry for the hijack Pottsy.

yea, im usually riding in that little cove by freddies... if you go into the little bay right across from it i have a house in there... its gray and theres three parts to it... maybe ill see you guys around

I think the lesson to be learned from your story is to make sure your driver/spotter is paying attention! 20-30 secs is a long time!
