If you all go to Lake Powell on a regular basis you know what a huge deal this is. The Castle Rock Cut will most likely be open by tomorrow morning!!

With the CRC open you can actually save almost a day and bypass The Narrows which is perfect for wakeboats!!

Best news all day! No more squeezing a houseboat pulling a wakeboat past Antelope.

thats great to hear, there was so much traffic going through antelope we let the malibu's loose to not have to worry about them.

When you say open, do you mean you'll be able to put a houseboat through it??? That would be incredible and will probably save us a couple hundred dollars in gas for Brostock!!

You said save almost a day. From the pic, it's hard to see how far around that really is. Can you be more specific? A day in a houseboat (5mph), a day in a wakeboat going slow through traffic (15mph)?

Sorry, I'm just curious. Never been to Powell, but have been thinking about going.

It's really about a 2-3 hour drive to go around, but a major pain! I think it's 12 extra miles.

Thanks David.

Ok, so another question. Is this a result of their finally being rain, or did they let less water through the dam? ... Where is the water coming from?

I think it's from finally getting some rain and snow in Colorado.

Actually it usually takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes for us to go through the narrows in our houseboat, however depending on the time of day it could cost you an entire day, especially if there is a lot of traffic. If you rent a houseboat it is very possible that all the campsites will be taken and you will have to keep steaming up the lake, often till dark. With the cut open you can easily find a camping spot in the daylight.

For more information you can check Waynes Words, his board is crazy about Powell and the CRC...

Waynes Words

They say it is going up 4" an hour. So if you have a pontoon style houseboat you will most likely be able to make it through sometime tomorrow. If you have one of the newer v-hulls it might be Sunday before you can make it.

I was told that small boats with a low draft can easily make it now...

This have anything to do with the grand canyon cleaning thing that was going on?

Nothing to do with it. Five feet were drained from Powell for the Grand Canyon flush.
