where to get ballast hose?

Anyone know a reasonable place to pick up ballast hose similar to this in 1" ID? http://www.bakesonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=1298

I got mine at West Marine, westmarine.com. Also check out Home Depot, I think they have the white flex spa tubing that will last longer than the other stuff but isnt as flexible. I used a combination of both on my system.

Home Depot has a braided 1" clear hose.

The 1" braided at Home Depot is a great hose, but it is suseptable to kinking. I have some of it in my system and it can kink easier. Personally, I would stay with the standard ballast hose in the first link above. There's a reason why the manufacturers use it.

yea i have used the Home Depot line on my existing system now, no a big fan it does kink. I like the stuff i posted the link to, but i need 1" ID and bakes only does 3/4"

I bought my here. It doesn't kink. It wlll require a heat gun to soften up hose on some fittings.

I got mine from here. Home Depot or spa shop will have the same stuff in white. I wanted black to match the factory stuff. Def. need to heat this stuff with a hair dryer and vasoline to get it on the fly high fittings.

actually found it, the lines bakes carries are trident rubber lines, going to go with this

I found that exact stuff in 1 inch at my local Lowe's. Much less susceptible to kinking than the white spa hose. The turn radius of the spa hose is a bit lacking if you have to get it into a tight spot.

I have the Shields Series 141 Multi-flex 1" for $75 p/ 50ft roll or $1.65 p/ft Plus shipping. Shipping weight is about .25lbs per/ft.

I dont like the Spa-flex as it's too stiff to get a good clamping on it. The hose with the nylon helix coils is real hard to work with. As the hose stretches to fit over a barbed fitting, the helix can break. A heat gun helps, but then the hose gets soft and it's like trying to push a rope to get it on the fitting.

^^^Mike if you're talking about the Trident hose that's some of the easiest hose out there to work with. Bends well, doesn't kink, and is flexible as you want it to be. You will not break the coils inside the hose.

Does it bend well - yes, didnt say it didnt. I agree, it doesn't kink - again, didnt say it did kink. Flexible, yes, it's flexible as far as the install is concerned. But, I will stand behind my statement that the hose with a nylon coil is tough to work with, that's why the 50ft I bought is going back. Give me a minute and I'll re-size and post the pic I emailed to the manufacturer.

Just to clarify, I didn't specifically name Trident, but spoke in general about hoses that use a nylon coil. This is what I experienced with one brand I tried and just wanted to share that. Since I DID have this happen, and have pics, it's kinda hard to say i'm wrong, dont ya think? Either way, Nubu is always right, everyone else is wrong $.02

I'm talking about Trident hose toughguy, not your clear hose that's why I asked the question. Your statement was false about all hose of that design.

You know Mike on second thought maybe you're right, YOU can't get it to work. The Trident hose is used on every single boat that comes out of the factory with ballast from Malibu. It must suck.

I used 1" carlon plastic electrical flex on mine. It's cheap, strong, oil resistant, and won't kink. you may need a heat gun to get it over the fittings if it's cold outside. For my portable fatsac pumps I like to see water/air inside the hose so I use that clear spiral flex hose similar to what is pictured above. I get that stuff from tanks & more off ebay.

As others have mentioned, we've got the 1" version of the hose here, it's the same stuff that all of the manufacturers use from the factory.

This is NOT spa hose and it's much easier to work with because the sidewall does not have to be nearly as thick based on the temperatures it's rated for and the fact that it will not be exposed to chlorine and other chemicals.

Non-metallic electrical conduit sold at Lowes/HD.

Won't kink, clamps fine and cheap. I won't touch any spa hose as kinks sucked.
