Doing some spring cleaning and came across some subs/boxes that I forgot I had.... wondering if any these options sounds better than what I am currently running (which is pretty poor sounding)

EDIT: what I found cleaning - 2 Rockford Fosgate 12" subs - good shape and they sound quite good still ----- 1 bandpass box for 2-12s ---- 2 - single 12" sub boxes

I don't need anything like some of the setups you see here, just right now there is almost no bass coming from the sub in the boat (at least that you can hear/feel)

.... right now we're running a 15" Alpine Type-R (no box), it is just mounted to the driver kick panel, it its open air.... powered by a 1000w 2-channel amp.

In everyone's opinion will I be further ahead doing one of the following options:
1. I have 2-12's in a bandpass box (found cleaning) powered by the same 1000w amp - this placed under the passanger seat (should fit)

2. Breakup the 12s I found cleaning and do this: 1-12" under the passanger seat in its own box and another 12" sub by the driver's feat in its own box .... both powered by the 1000w amp

3. get a box for the 15" and move it to under passanger seat, same amp

Any input would be great.... I just want this to be a cheap project and get some bass in the boat that can actually be heard.... right now it is basically for show and has no function.

I say get a box for the 15 and put it in the driver kick panel, use the existing facia and mount the box behind

This will be in an old Supersport/SAN nautique and I can promise with the kick pannel in place, there will not be room for a box behind it... we had to get creative with where we put it now without a box because it barely fit.

Maybe find a box that will just be a "new" kick plate

Anyone have any tips for MC's with the sub behind the driver seat. I really want more low end but not sure if I should replace the sub and build a box around it in its current place or build a new custom box and put it elsewhere.

Nick you need to put that 15 in a box, it will slam if you power it right and put it in the right box. i had a 12'' type r and a 12 type x... i actually liked the type R better.

it doesn't sound good now because its not in a box...period.

Nick, running a sub free air like that is really bad for it. You said, "get a box" unless you get a box for a custom builder you'll be wasting your time. Prefab boxes are absolutely terrible, they're not the right size, who knows what the ports tuned to, untreated MDF, etc

I concur with Sippi. Alpine Type R's are good subs. I had one on my boat a few years back. You can build the box yourself. Check out my thread on box building, or you can tell me how much space you have and I can give you a cutlist, slot port or flared port. In the right box your (1) 15 will slam. I think an Alpine type R needs around 3.5-4^ft after displacement.

Thanks for all the input....

is it even worth messing with getting 2-12s in there or just stick with the 15 I have and get a box that will allow it to perform?

Stick with the 15. More simplistic, more efficient than the RF's

Well for kicks I swung by a pawn shop on my way home and picked up a single 12 and single 10 box... they were cheap... pulled the 15 and removed the kickplate and put the 12" by the drivers feet along the outter boat wall, tucked way up (actually gives me a ton more legroom) and then put the 10" under the "shotgun" seat but pushed up towards the bow.... fired it up with the amp at ~50% (where it was for the 15") and it sounds a ton better with just those small changes... its at least a band-aid until I figure out something a bit more long term to work in the 15" -- most likely by building a box (great tutorial posted above)

Thanks guys!
