We were out riding tonight and all the sudden my temp alarm started going off. The gage goes to 240 degrees and it was at 220. I have 542 hours on it. The intake wasn't clogged which we thought of first. Do intake pumps go out? What are people's thoughts? I am so bummed right now!!

If you havent replaced the impeller, now would be a good time. They are a wear iem and dont last forever. Typical to get 2 years out of them. Some people change it every year.

Could be your impeller, could be your raw water pump, could be your circulation pump, could be something else. I've never lost an impeller itself but I did lose the raw water pump. If I recall correctly it was squeaking though. Check your impeller first, it's a common issue. If the impeller is bad it won't pump enough water or worse it will be in pieces clogging up waterways.

Ryan,

Also check the screen on the trasmission cooler...it could be clogged. If the impeller went out pieces of it will be trapped there.

Holy sh..! Greg..even when your deployed in Southeast Asia you still pull through for me! When this happened last night I instantly thought of you. I figured it would sit in the garage till you get back in December..lol! You and I changed the impeller back in April. I'll check it though. How do I check the transmission cooler? We changed the fluid but never heard you say anything about a cooler. So great to hear from you!

Here is a picture of it. Trace your water lines and it shold be mounted towards the back of the engine on the drivers side. Anything caught in the screen should be on the impeller side of the cooler.
