I need some advice...

My boat came with a 600 lb sac under the back seat (nearly identical to the setup in about an '01 X-9). It will only fill to half capacity with the back seat base in the normal position.

I was thinking of putting a Fat Seat (advertised at 800 - 1500 lbs.) back there & throwing the factory sac in the front walkway (an Outback doesn't have front in floor storage.

Will this be too much rear weight?

top off the front 600# sac, maybe add some fat buddies under bow cushions and then you can fill fat seat in back accordingly. being a direct drive you want to evenly distribute the weight for optimum wake.

or you could just place 2000 in lead up front and 2000 of lead in back, pull the plug, collect insurance and buy a nautique...

I heard that the Outback does not like to have weight near the back seat or in the back trunk because it could rupture the gas tank.

I have an 01 and was told to try a #600 on each side of the motor and a #300 just in front of the motor box/ski pole. Be very careful for rollers because the boat will be sitting very low.......

I have a 98 Mobius that I weight with a seat in back and a sack in the walkway. It works very well.

We have a '99 Outback and just have purchased two 540# sacs for either side of the dog house. Talking to me Launch Pad rep at our local shop, he rides in the same boat and said as long as you move the two 540's as far forward as they can go behind the drivers seat and other side, along with throwing perhaps 80#'s in the nose, the boat should throw a decent wake. Only thing to watch for is perhaps the prop, maybe have to go for a 4 blade ACME or something.

Remember, SC redesigned the Outback for 2003. The new style Outback is squared off in the rear, not rounded like the old style. So you can apply the 40/60 rule to this boat now. 40% of your weight up front, 60% of you weight in the rear.

Daniel,

Did you purchase the Launch pad single 540lb? How do you like them?

Jeffrey,

We puchrased two 540 coverless sacs and will be using them this weekend for the first time. We filled them up on the weekend and the bags themselves are strong. Will let you know how it goes and even go as far as taking a before and after picture of the wake.

Sorry, yes the Launch Pad single 5640's coverless.

Thanks. If you can, email me a pic of the before and after wake. I am going to probably do the same for my 01 (non LS) if yours looks good. I just started boarding and it's ok for me even with no ballast and a few people in the boat. :-)

We have an 04 DD mobius, same hull i think and we put 650# on each side of the engine, the stock 350 or whatever it is in the back tank then about450# in between the walkthrough, sink it down evenly and you'll be stoked, it does sit low though so watch out for rollers, and spinnin it around real quick, water likes to come over the bow from time to time

Do yourself a favour and replace the stock OJ prop with a 3 blade ACME. I put the Acme #543 on my 2004 Mobius LS and all i can say is WOW. You will not believe how much cleaner and more solid your wake will be.

Thomas, a good rule of thumb is 60% rear/ 40% front. I run about 1200lbs rear and 700lbs front in my X-5 and it works out pretty well.
