Ive been trying to land my first 3 but i really dont know where to start from. I can jump wake to wake fine but when i try to do a 360 i cant ever seem to go wake to wake. I bought the waketrix video and look over that forever and i still cant seem to pull it off. here is a vid of some of my tries. so if anyone can help me please post.

There's a couple problems. The main issue is that you're completely flattening out and backing off your edge before you hit the wake. It is very important that you edge through the wake. The next problem is that you're initiating the spin a bit early. Come into the wake with a solid progressive edge through the lip and then pop. After a good pop off the wake, then start the spin with a good pull to your back hip. Finally, it looks like you're really only pulling with one hand. It will be much easier if you pull with both hands. Good luck!

steve hit it on the head...

way to flat,to early, not commited.

If you weren't trying a 360 on those jumps, you don't look like you would even make W2W on most of them either.

Kev,
Haha, thanks! You riding tomorrow? I'll probably be out with Tyler, but unfortunately not riding. My left knee took a good hit today doing a big grabbed hs 3 (of all things ) today on a d-up behind geoff's 210. I'm out of comission for a little while at least. Hopefully nothing too serious...

take a wider cut, PROGRESSIVELY come into the wake, keep your hands in the same spot everytime, you are all over the place

need to spin flat, right now you are off axis

I know its none of my business but why take that one hand off the handle before you cut?!??

you're initiating the spin way too early dude. on the 3rd try, you started spinning at the bottom of the wake. trust me, that trick is a lot easier if you use the wake. think pop, pull, pass. you might not want to flatten out 10' from the wake either.

because i feel like i get into my edge faster. but i think one of my big problems are is that im scared right before i hit the wake and then i end up giving up my edge.
so if you have any hints on how to not be a pussy that might help me out to.
thanks

One thing that could make your life easier would be to put a tower or a pylon on the cobalt. From the vid it looks like the rope being so low it is holding you back from completing the trick. Because once you reach a certain hieght it pulls you back to the water.
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       07-15-2006, 11:07 PM Reply
don't let the rope being low be an excuse or cop-out. with proper technique, you can do that trick all day long, even w/ the rope where it's at. work on your fundamentals...then it won't matter where the rope is tied.

ryan, watch some older wake vids, like skurf's up, high wake drifters, gravity sucks, or even a newer vid, retrospect, with footage for the old days. those guys didn't need a tower or pylon.

and ya nick that last fall in the vid took me out for that day and the next.

joe what kind of funamentals should i be working on. should i try the 360 inside to outside wake and then try to take it w2w
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       07-15-2006, 11:13 PM Reply
no, work on basics; progressive edge, standing tall, handle position. these are things you need in order to move on to bigger and better things (tricks!). from what i saw in the video, you're lacking in the fundamentals department. take a step back and get them down. once you do, learning tricks will be A LOT easier.
Old     (wake21)      Join Date: Feb 2005       07-15-2006, 11:17 PM Reply
you say standing tall and hadle position. where should my handle be and what exactly do you mean by standing tall or does that just speak for itself.
Old     (surfer_ryan223)      Join Date: Aug 2005       07-15-2006, 11:22 PM Reply
I didnt say it couldn't be done or that "the rope being low be an excuse..." Steve had already nailed the answer all i was doing was giving some advice NOT making a excuse for why the trick cant be done.

Old     (midwesty)      Join Date: Aug 2003       07-16-2006, 12:22 AM Reply
is this the only trick you are trying right now? what other tricks are you landing w2w?
Old     (wake21)      Join Date: Feb 2005       07-16-2006, 8:53 AM Reply
i can do various grabs w2w and thats about it. Ive tried a 180 but i cant ride switch that well so when i land my board just comes out from under me.
Old     (garret_s)      Join Date: Apr 2006       07-16-2006, 9:15 AM Reply
get 180's down first. This will help you. Sorry to be a downer.
Old     (midwesty)      Join Date: Aug 2003       07-16-2006, 10:10 AM Reply
you definitely are not ready for a 3 then
Old     (greenpinky)      Join Date: Apr 2004       07-16-2006, 10:37 AM Reply
spend entire sets just riding around switch. honestly, after a day or two, you'll be comfortable enough to land 180s. work on that before 180s. a good rule of thumb is to work in fundamentals and progression. that means 180s before 3's before 5's.

I have 45 foot rope and have been going 19 to 21 mph. Is this fast enough. My dad says I need to go faster but I am not sure.

most people ride @65'+

but if you arent clearing the wake at 45', dont know what to tell you
Old     (ghostrider_2)      Join Date: Aug 2004       07-16-2006, 7:14 PM Reply
45 is short!!

not flattening out the board before you hit the wake, that was a bad habit I developed right away as I learned from a "thinks he knows it all"
I learned not to flatten by looking at the wake as I start to edge and just thinking jdon't flatten, keeping an eye on the wake and were I planned to land. not just focused on one spot.
eveyboy is different though, so you need to find it out for yourself

HINT watch the video until your sick of seeing yourself flatting out, then watch it some more! vids of myself riding have helped dramatically improve my riding. I see a weakness, on next time I go out I focus on fixing it, I am in no rush to learn new tricks that I am not ready for. I probably diesect (bad spelling) my vids as much as I did when I coached high school football
