In the process of getting a boat and curious if anyone has suggestions for a first board and binding set up. I have been snowboarding for years but nothing crazy just free riding etc. Have done just some wakeboarding no tricks just weak ass jumps.

I second Ryan's thoughts......and when you progress remove the fins and it's like a whole new board.

Also second what Ryan said. Rode his buddy's 138 Substance with the Transits last Saturday and the setup was awesome.

I can already see it....newb buys advanced board b/c WW posters suggested it. Then, 6mo later, comes back for help with his riding and gets flamed b/c he's riding a parks and can't go w2w.

Mark, since you are new to the sport, the best thing for you to do is visit the local board shop and demo as many setups as you can. You need to figure out your riding style and find a board that suits it. Try to demo boards with different rocker types (continuous, 3-stage or hybrid), different fin setups and different lengths. All the above will be big factors in how the board feels on the water. Only you will know what feels right to you.

I think bindings are more price driven, since you can spend $100 or $400. Pick 3-4 that are w/in your budget and try each on. Buy the pair thats the most comfortable and supportive on YOUR foot.

How about a CWB Pure or Sol.... Excellent all around boards with some Torq or Fuse bindings. Maybe a Liquid Force Omega with Alpha bindings.

I started on a HL Motive and liked it a lot. I know a number of friends that also started on a Motive. It's a newbie friendly board that the rider can progress on. Some advanced rider friends of mine still keep the Motive in their quiver.

Maybe try a LF Trip as well. I just started out this past spring on a Trip with some sphynx bindings. I like it so far.

I purchased a beginer board, rope and instructional video last Christmas for my wife.

Paid $150 at Overtons for a Matrix board with Chaser bindings. Board ain't too bad and is all we need until we get better at the sport.
