I'm currently riding an O'Brien Science 2005, with a 3 fin arrangement. I'm thinking of ditching the middle fin & just using the outer 2. Do I have to worry about filling the hole left by the missing fin screw ?

I'm gonna ditch it because I'm having a few problems sliding out whilst hitting kickers & think that 2 fins will provide a more equal weight distribution instead of all my weight pivioting on the larger middle fin ? I'm flattening out on the kicker approach but still slide out 50% of the time. I'm just starting out hence need more practice.

Does this make any sense or does it all just sound like a load of old rubbish ?

Alex, I can follow your train of thought.
I used to ride the Science. I rode it w/o the center fin for the last couple of months I had it. It will be noticeably different. Much looser and easier to break it loose (which I think that you are going for). Just try it out and see how you like it.

I didnt plug the wholes. I figured that sinch it was a composite/foam core it couldny be that bad...

Alex, I have a LF trip..three Fin setup. It may not be a similar shape board but the principles should be the same. If your sliding out now with 3 fins, you’ll make the problem even worse by removing the center fin. Don’t; worry about filling the hole. The first jump I took after removing my center fin, I got owned by the river after a simple TS jump….I slid right out of it and caught an edge goin about 25-26 mph.

I wouldthink that you are sliding out onthe ramp because your wheight is not centerd or balanced very well.
If the board slides forward causing you to but check coming off the kicker you have to much weight on your heels. I would also say that you would need more speed.

You could take the center fin out but unless you are on a long kicker(comp ski jump)you shouldn't be on the ramp long enough to feel a teetering affect.
