anyone know what boat this is?

The guy is practically giving it away and it looks like it might be a nice project but what is it? The owner wants it out and doesn't know anything about it.

If it floats and the engine runs, go for it. My first boat was a fix'r up'r and was a blast to do.

Look on the transom for ID#s, that's a good start.
The last two digits tell you the year, and the first two or three should give you a clue to the mfg.
I'd go for it, if it's really as cheap as you say.
Could be a fun project and learning experience...

Where is the engine? The hull looks similar to the Southwind (see the lip up front) but I think Southwinds are larger. Fixer upper isn't so bad on an inboard provided everything is pretty solid and there are no major leaks (or minor leaks in weird places). Oh, and assuming the engine and transmission have replacements readily available. It's still an expensive process. You can easily spend far more than you would on a newer boat with fewer potential issues.

he may selling it for what its worth... nada. i'm all for putting some sweat equity into a project, but i'd have to climb all over this thing to be comfortable with it. That fender looks like its seen better days, for example. I would wager that parts of then engine look similar. outside, uncovered for eons.

if the engine and tranny aren't solid, run. you can quickly sink way more than you expected into a project like this.

Thanks for the responses. It may be more of a project then I need right now. It does have 351 ford that runs but that is all I know about it. He only wants $300 for the whole thing so that makes me think two things.. 1 it is completely trashed and probably missing alot of parts. Or 2, maybe it belonged to someone else and has just sat for a little while and got dirty and neglected. The owner obviously knows nothing about it so its possible. I guess I will try to get a hold of him and see what he can tell me. Thanks guys!

If you don't have mech. skills, have someone do a compression check on the motor. For $300, if you don't have a sled already, it might just be a diamond in the rough. Who cares about interior anyway. Slap some sacks in it, sink it to the rails and let err ride.....

does he know last time it was fired? second committed's compression check. good engine. San Diego. maybe saltwater used. could mean engine parts (manifolds and risers). Not a deal killer, but you want to know that going in. Does he have any info on the boat?

look at the tranny fluid.

Next, I would want to know about the hull. So you need the make. look under the dash. and for hull numbers.

Okay I went and looked at it. Not good! The picture makes it look like there is a chance for this thing but there is not. I didn't even check to see what make this is. At most the engine and transmission could be used in another hull. Im sure there are $300 or more in parts there but not for me. Thanks for all the suggestions from everyone though. If anyone knows of a good boat hull with a bad motor I may reconsider but I doubt it. Looks like I'm stuck with the Gayliner for a little longer...
