Clear Lake or Shasta rental anyone?

Looking for a vacation house to rent for a weekend on either lake around the mid to end of July timeframe. Would like a lake front property with a dock so I dont have to pull the boat in and out. Sleeps about 12. Anyone?

Shasta is so much nicer, but I only know of cabins/cottages at silverthornresort.com

Clearlake on the other hand has houses for rent on the water.

I was just reading some posts about clearlake, and it doesnt sound like that much fun according to how everyone described it. Alge up the ying yang, choppy, windy. I think i just scratched that off the list.. anyone have any feedback on berryessa? Shasta still looks interesting

berryessa in july??? good luck finding good water, unless you get up at butt-crack-thirty in the morning!

Lake Oroville?

clear lake is great in the morning during the week. Gets blow out almost every evening. Algee is not that bad, would you jump in the delta? Whats the difference. Shasta is a way better riding lake. But it hard to beat camping on the water at clear lake. NO hike to your boat.

Why not a houseboat? Shasta has some killer house boats that I checked out at the boat show last weekend. Various sizes.

I looked at houseboats and it just seems like with 10-12 people it would just be really cramped. Most of us are pretty tall and the rooms just feel really clostrafobic. dont get me wrong
they are really nice, and some are pretty spacious but, with 2 small kids running around, and mostly all the guys being over 6 foot, I would feel like shaq in a motel 6 room. Plus for the amount of money spending, seems like a lakefront house would be a little better.

I really would like to do the whole houseboat thing as an experience but without the kids

We use to camp at Shasta and thought we where in heaven then our friends talked us into going on a house boat. Needless to say we don't camp anymore. The last 3 years we have gone with 12 to 14 people on a house boat without any problems. Your not going to get lake front property in July. You will have to hike some. A cabin costs just as much as a house boat for the week. Make sure you add in the cost of mooring and everything else when you rent.

How old are the little ones going with you? You'll have fun no matter what you do. The boat is the way to go though.
