Im lookong at picking up a used byerly board and was wondering if I should spend more and get the 04/05 shape vs. the 03 shape. would there be a noticable difference in pop, speed, or edge hold between the two? thanks

IMO, the boards ride quite differently.

they have almost identical bases(channels, fins) but the "flow-thru" tech. really slows it down. i have an 05 and it really holds in the water. the 03's are coveted, if you can find one, go for it.

Dan - have you ridden that board? I rode the '02 137 for a while. I thought it was a good board until I got on a Substance, then I realized I hated it.

The Byerly is not a similar ride to an Era. You need an Absolute, its that simple.

I'm going to have to agree with that one...the '02-'03 shape anyway. I haven't ridden the can-opener.

the substance takes what the era and byerly do and adds for me... quicker release off the wake, smooth transitions similar to the era, more pop like the byerly and more forgiving landings... unlike either (for me) ride it finless, it is awesome, I want to try the watson, but the substance is where its at, maybe the absolute too, havent tried it...

Dan - I'll sell you my substance. It's an '04 138, and I painted the top flat black. It looks sick. I won't be riding for a while, no ACL. $175 obo.

The subjekt would be a fun board to ride, but you have to be on your game. I like to ride relaxed and lazy so the substance is good for me.

Ive got the 03 byerly DNA, and I love it man. I can edge, cut, fly, and, whatever amazing. Havent rode a cwb but I am in no hurry to switch. May look for another one if this one goes out on me. Not to mention the 03 142 dna graphics are sick, especially with byerly boots on em. Later

I have a 2002 byerly dna 142 board for sale. I need to get a new board, reblew my acl, 3rd times a charm with no insurance. Looking to get a 06 hyperlite roam just saw them at surf expo and that looks like the future for me a little closer to the ground. Make me an offer at nikolasjacobson858@hotmail.com it is the byerly with the lady burning at the stake on the bottom and the green top with the spiders. Excelent condition for it's age no deep scratches or gouges and never seen a rail, wake riding only. (Message edited by nikj on September 20, 2005)

Sorry to hear about your knee, thane. I tore out my knee on a substance as well (03, I believe). I love that board though--poppy, loose and fun, and it has soft landings as well. It's watson, I tell you! He's bad luck!!!
