Fingers crossed that they had a backup. Too much good info on those boards to be lost.

ya know, I was telling someone today...

"bet the board has been hacked again and when it comes back on, it will be missing 100's of posts and my name will be mentioned "

Oh well, it gives us Moderators a little vacation.

Yeah, I figured this might be the case. Been trying to access it for a few days. Was looking for the thread on how to weight the DD for wakesurfing...I've got about 1500 pounds in the boat and although I have a big wake the pocket is really short and there doesn't seem to be any real push to it...

No kidding. They need a different IT staff/host. That's horrible. I work in IT and the 4+ days it took to fix the first time was unacceptable.

perhaps a redesigned website is in the works

besides, we can't demand a community forum - be thankfull we have what we have.

Why is it that the SC sites seem to be the only ones suseptable to hacks? This is the third time that I know off, If I was SC I would be looking at another provider that can host the sites with better security protocols.

I work in IT too, for a government defense contractor... If any of our stuff got hacked, well heads would roll and I'd be grilled. If it became a pattern, with downtime measured in days, not minutes or hours I'd be fired for incompetence and lack of preparation. Don't even get me started on potential data loss... Not sure what SC has that would be all that valuable data to steal though.
Old     (matt75)      Join Date: Nov 2010       07-31-2011, 7:33 PM Reply
BUT, when you pay for hosting or host yourselves with an IT staff/consultant- I'd expect someone to know what they're doing. I'd lose the client for more than a 1/2 day of downtime.

Seems like every other time the forum was down. Skiers choice web site was also down. Everything seems to work accept the supra and moomba forums. I hope they didnt decide to pull the plug on the forums.

If they did decide to stop hosting forums, it wouldn't be difficult for one of us to set up our own. The question becomes would it be best to absorb those forums into another forum such as WW or would it be best to create a new one? It would surely be more reliable and we could probably do something about all the spam. It shouldn't require a lot of processing power or bandwidth if we're not hosting pictures and such. I've hosted similar things before on cable connections with little solid state micro ATX boxes. It would be a shame to lose all the information and posts in the SC forums though.

A forum without pitures is useless. There's plenty of acceptable options available.
Old     (wotan)      Join Date: Jul 2008       08-02-2011, 6:45 AM Reply
I'd be more than happy to host the forums. I've got plenty of resources to do so. Let's give Supra a few days and if it seems dead we will try to work with Rick (or someone?) to try and get a SQL dump of the data.... This would be easy enough to bring back into a new board.

Or... start from scratch.

I didn't say no pictures, just not internally hosted. Photobucket and similar services allow you to store many high quality pictures which can be linked and displayed in threads. I never cared for forums with internally hosted pictures anyhow as there are always limits on the number that can be hosted, the quality, and often you must be registered/logged in to see them.

Can't they get updated or hacked on a day when I'm too busy??

Again another week down, totally unacceptable imo. I've never heard of a site being hacked or otherwise where it took a week or more to restore. Obviously they've never heard of redundancy, someone at SC should look that up in the dictionary!

Well, in their defense, how long did it take Sony's Playstation Network to recover from being hacked? Months? They also may be preparing the 2012 site, which could be part of the reason things are acting up.

Our web contractor is working on it. Definite hack again. Going for a stronger fix this time. Which will take more time. Sorry

The 2012's are out on Moomba...facebook. Will update Supra very soon. Doing our photoshoot this week.

Rick -- Thanks for the update! Glad to hear they are mending things....

It might be time to consider a new web contractor. Downtime even for very large sites is usually measured in minutes rather than weeks.

Not to mention something like a vbulletin install is pretty straightforward and shouldn't be anywhere near this much trouble to configure & be kept up to date.

Supra's customer service is awful on their BBS. When calling them directly it has been better, but not exceptional. The dealer is essential for Supra.

Haugy - I just sold my Supra too. Went with a Malibu Wakesetter 247 LSV. I love it. This boat jumps out of the water!

I can't fault them for that. They don't make a dime off the BBS and lately it's been nothing but headaches for them. Supra is good at making boats. They seem to be somewhat marginal at building a brand and facilitating a community of boat owners. It's less than perfect, but it's understandable given that they have focused their resources on the pieces of the business that represent $$$$$. They have built a business around a dealer network and ask them to do the community building. As long as the dealers are happy -- the website need only be a catalog.
Old    Haugy            08-05-2011, 9:53 AM Reply
Actually I was kidding. I have not sold my Supra. There will always be a Supra in my stable. Always. If I was a millionaire I'd have some other brands. But my Supra does me just fine.

John - Hopefully you can get out of your Supra ... and to something new. The main thrust for me to get rid of mine is that we wanting something bigger, but the problems we had a few months ago was the last straw for my wife, she wanted a new boat. (You might have read that on Supraboats.com/bbs.)

I fault them. Supra NEVER responds the boards. I cannot see how that can be a headache.

Furthermore, as a catalog, the web site is horrible. Have you looked at how many errors there are? It looks like they finally fixed (after years) of the interior pictures not matching to what is actually selected.

The only thing I think is great about the web site is the pricing configuration tool - which is basically a catalog.

I've spent so much time repairing mine and making it into something that fits that I don't want to start over, or lose money on something else.

Wotan, a manufacturer's web forum should be a tool for the company to take advice and learn what the CONSUMER wants, or how to make their product better. If they just stick to building boats, where's the customer service? People that buy their boats don't have a fair chance at giving feedback to the company through a dealer because the dealer could either take it seriously or brush it off. Some of the dealers I've dealt with (with other manufacturers as well, not just Supra) don't really give a ****. Yes, there are some that care, not all are like that. All manufacurer's have their flaws, but to me what makes that company stand above the rest is how they listen to the consumer's, whether it be on the internet, the phone (that most of them don't answer), or through a dealer.
Old     (jonyb)      Join Date: Nov 2008       08-05-2011, 5:40 PM Reply
As for the website, I completely agree with Martin, the site is horrible. Last time I looked at the site at boat pictures, there were maybe 5 pictures of the interior that made anything visible. Until you see a boat in person, you have no idea how their built. The closest dealer to me for ANY wakeboat is more than 2 hours away. That's why the internet, AND WEB FORUMS, are so valuable.

The forum is still down but with the Moomba forum if you go to the site it will take you to a new page. It is still under construction but it isn't giving the same error it was before. So progress is slowly being made. Sweet. I can't wait.
