About to move into a pretty sick bachelor pad and buying a few things to prepare for pre/after parties for mixing/playing of some digital beats with touch-sensitive wheels. Something to have the option to play/mix from my macbook pro, usb or maybe even my iphone.

Ive come across a few numark, cortex etc. its only for pleasure not a mobile dj business. Just something to bring life to the party and get the girls to have fun on the stripper pole. I know...

But hey, Im recently divorced and had the clamp loosened off my testicles, so Im all about having fun again before I get locked back down lol

Any suggestions?

I bought the Numark iDJ3 a while back when it first came out.. I was a little disappointed with the quality of it, but then again for $200 or whatever I shouldn't have expected much. The software was pretty cool and you could build playlists and be able to mix/fade songs together, but you could only do that through a computer. It would play songs off your ipod, but you couldn't mix them. I wound up and traded it for some PS3 games, but if i was you.. i would look at some higher end stuff, if possible.

I have the Traktor Kontrol S4. They are around $900. I am not sure how much you are wanting to spend or what you want to do, but there is a number of options out there.

S4 - 4 Decks or 2 decks with 8 sample decks, Loops, effects, and Traktor 2 software. I love mine it is awesome. time code is available if you have CDJs or TTs

VCI - 300 - 2 Decks. If you want effects you will need to buy the add on. It uses the itch software. I had this one also, but sold it to buy the S4

Traktor S2 (not sure if it is out yet) - This is similar to the S4, but only 2 decks

With any of these options you couldn't go wrong. The software on both is good and fairly easy to learn.

or you can go witht he old trusty option turntables or CDJs with Serato scratch live. this is the most expensive way to go though.

The mixdeck is pretty solid. I think that you still can't mix/scratch off an ipod, just create a playlist and possibly beatmatch fade in/out on songs...

I'm sort of interested in CREATING some music. Been getting into dubstep and want to start creating some sounds. Anyone have any insight?

Yeah thats the thing that stinks, is the iphone/ipod would just be to play a playlist of songs when im not there mixing. Im getting it for enrtainment purposes since i figure i'll start having alot more people over.

+1 for serato. Buy a used set of 1200s and a used serato box and you will have a great system the vinyl just feels better

+2 for serato. My guess is you are not looking to spend a fortune so buying decks and a mixer is probably out of the question, but I have heard great things about that numark controller. Anyone else using dicers and a midi conroller (I use the Akai LPD8)? Those things have re sparked my love for djing.

Also Jeff, feel free to pm with any questions you my have about production. I can most likely answer anything you need to know about it.

On Ebay you can get a Vestax VCI 300 in that price range easily.

if you want something more stripping down you can go with the VCI 100, but it doesn't use itch. It uses Traktor LE. I have no experience with it, but it is pretty basic and should work for mixing. All for under $300

Andy, are you aware tech 12's are $1000 each now that they have discontinued them? I agree though, That was my setup for 16 yrs. till I discovered serato.

Yup, I know there are discontinued. But man, you gotta stick with the ROOTS! I have a the serato live scratch and love it. Makes moving your Dj gear around cool. You can still get Tech 12's for a good deal, check out guitarcenter.com they have loads of them. Something just magical to me about the Tech 12's and my rane mixer to me. I just love buying wax, maybe thats my problem. My buddy grabbed a set of Stanton ST-150's that are solid.

Guitar center is where i saw them for $999 ea. Do you have the ttm-57. Best mixer in the game. Also if you have not yet get yourself a pair of novation dicers. They are only $75 and are the best dj tool I have bought since I bought my first pair of decks.
