So my wife decided to try the HS backroll last week ...

http://www.liquidglassmedia.com/video/TERI_BACKROLL.mov

The video shows every attempt. Wish it would have been that easy for me! She also whipped our butts in PIG earlier in the week as well.

She kept letting the handle out away from her lead hip, when she landed it she had it in to her core MUCH better. Congrats!

Hey Joe C, not Joey C :-), can you please let us know what camera and editing software you used (compression, etc.) The video quality is absolutely amazing. Nice job by the wife.

Joe ~~ I will also chime it with the quality of video, and congrats to your wife joining the invert club. That is about what I felt like when I hit my first HS Backroll... Keep the progression of the sport alive! Thanks for the post.

Yes ... this was the first day she was attempting backrolls. The first 5 misses were in the afternoon. When we came out for the second set she hit it on the first try.

As for the video, we were shooting with a Panasonic HVX-200 in High Definition (DVCPROHD - 720P (native mode)). Editing with Final Cut and compressed to H.264 (LAN) using Compressor.

When you do the vid frame by frame in Quicktime, the expression on her face when she realizes she isn't going to bite it toe side after landing is priceless. Her eyes were as big as saucers.

Awesome trick, great vid!

The video had me grinning like a cheesenut. Brought back the day I landed my first tantrum...unbelief quickly followed by intense elation...talk about a natural high. Congrats to your wife on a sweet trick!

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

How long has she been riding and what other tricks did she learn before the backroll? Would love to see another video of her doing some other jumps!

That was awesome. Looks like the first attempt could have been a R2R.

that is so awesome! i'm not kidding you, i was stoke for your wife when she landed it..a backroll is something I want to learn SO bad. i'm hoping to get it at the lake trip next week!! congrats to her!!!
Old     (chrzanowski5)      Join Date: Aug 2002       08-17-2007, 5:37 AM Reply
She's been riding for 4 years or so ... real solid HS jumps along with a few 180's, but she had to sit out most of last year with a bad knee (and some of this season).

Thanks again ... I'm getting a kick out of all the responses. Although I've seen the video a hundred times, I still "grin like a cheesenut" everytime.

Joe
that's awesome
congrates to the wife
and....you must be proud
I am "racing" my 11 year old daughter to see who gets the first invert
but, feel like my "clock is tickin"
I see that your wife is 20 years younger than I am.....I hate to sound like a flyweight...but.....how painful was the learning curve? ha ha
I know....but.....I don't rebound as well as I used to
I would assume that the crashes are less painful than a good, solid, front edge faceplant
did she do any trampoline training?

thanks
