I found out about this last summer -- it has worked for me but be prepared to fill out more than just the standard paperwork and jump through a couple hoops. They'll eventually send you a refund if you do everything correctly, but it won't be quick and they're not eager to do it. Well worth the trouble IMO.

I just got $195.02 back on 995 gallons of gas used in '05.

Melanie - Not sure how it is in other states, but here the only thing they look at is proof of boat ownership and copy of receipts. So there really isn't a way to tell how the gas is being used.

FYI - I met someone once who thought that the "Don't Mess with Texas" slogan meant to leave Texans alone.

It was a slogan created many years ago to reduce littering. Just wanted to let ya know in case people from other states really thought that.

Hey Jeff, has anyone ever told you that Texans are in fact capable of sarcasm? Lay off man, no one took any shots at the OR (easy as that may be), and there's nothing wrong with being proud of where you're from.

Krit -- that's not to say it couldn't mean "leave Texans alone," depending on the context.
