PP on MerCruiser Black Scorpion PHOTO PLEASE ...

Please help me get my boat back running soon ...

I'm asking to see if by chance anyone has a picture of where & how the PerfectPass servo motor is installed on a MerCruiser Black Scorpion motor that you can post up.

I'm having a hard time figuring out the location and orientation from the one "photo" that came with my Stargazer, as it's not really a picture of the servo (barely shows an edge of the unit in the corner of the photo).

heads up for your install ... when mounting the bracket that the "L shaped brass" piece goes to, your tolerances are fairly tight for any type of socket or box end wrench. I have a fair collection of tools, and I didn't have "the right tool" for this. If I had noticed before hand, I would have run to the hardware store and gotten something with a different head on it (similar to the allen keyed one with the L shaped piece) to allow me a better purchase on the screw.

I was able to do an okay job with a small crescent holding the nut on end while I turned the screw. Good luck ...

Thanks ... that's perfect ... I was concerned about the tolerances with it sitting like that, but if it's workin' for you, I guess it'll work for me too!

I installed mine in 07 and it was flawless for 3 years then the servo quit so I read some threads on WW and guys were taking the servo apart and cleaning it so that's what I did figuring what do I have to lose before I buy a new one but it's been working just fine since.

Next qeuestion on this install ...

Does anyone know how to remove the little ball joint swivel connector on the end of the throttle cable?

It appears that there is a small locking nut on the threaded piece coming from the cable, however the brass swivel connecter does not seem to be coming free with any effort.

I'm open to anyone's help.

The collar on the end is spring loaded. Push back on it and slip the socket off.

Thanks Sparky Jay ... I should have written that more carefully. I was having a difficult time getting the treaded piece off the end of the cable. It required more effort to break the bond that had formed with the threads than I was expecting from such a small brass piece. Almost as if someone had put some type of thread-lock onto it!
