I've been attempting these stupid rolls for over a year now. Not very often though and I usually chicken out just before and bail, let go of the rope, never a full attempt.

Anyways, I know what I'm suppose to be doing, that's not the issue. Questions are line length, and boat speed. My normal line length is 65 plus handle, 70 feet at around 22 mph. Someone told me to slow it down a little and go 60 feet plus handle. At that length though it doesn't feel like you would have enough time to do a complete rotation? Seems very short and quick.

When most of you were learning were you trying to land them on the other wake or were you taking them into the flats? What hurts more? the WTW or when you take it into the flats? Seeing Josh Longs post as inspired me a little, I really want to land one of these stupid rolls!!!

So when learning stick with the same length and speed and try WTW or should I try landing them out further?

My kids keep asking me if I'm having Chicken tonight every time I attempt them.

take the rope length down but not the boat speed. if u take the speed down u'll loose the pressure against the board and won't be able to do the roll off the wake. landing in the flats is definately the better option as there's not chance of digging ure nose into the second wake (damn painful!!!)

u got good toe side jumps? I have the same back roll fear till this guy told me to try em toe side. they'r a little harder but u have more control of your body. unlike the back roll where u look over the shoulder and get thrown around (i bail on em all the time too, and hear about from my boat too) the toe side is like a big gainer, so if your comfortable with toe side jumps and can do some basic gymnastics u might want to give it a try. plus its easy to practice on a trampoline.
