Wow! After reading this thread I had to weigh in. I have one friend who wears shorts over his wetsuit because he is really self conscious. I always give him a hard time because of how funny he looks. I bought a full wetsuit when I was surfing in California and rock it shorts free when I wakeboard. In Ohio, we only get a small window of warm water and the suit helps. Anyone who needs to wear boardshorts over one has confidence issues. What is the deal with all of the talk about junk gazing??? Seems pretty homosexual to me

what is the deal with caring whether people wear shorts over their wetsuit or not? seems really lame to me.

The junk gazing is just one of those things that you can't help but look at... It's like when you're at the pool showers at the YMCA and you see the old naked men. You don't want to look, but you keep glancing over. Best explanation possible is from the Dane Cook joke about his dad, the robe, and the thing that his father told him that he'd never forget...

I don't wear em, but then again I was a rower for 6 years. A 5mm wetsuit is much more modest than spandex shorts

Is this back again? "The junk gazing is just one of those things that you can't help but look at..." No, it's one of those thing you can't help but look at. Are you the kid who got in trouble for all those drawings in Superbad?

This thread got really gay. I may have to change my mind and sport the shorts. I had no idea that dudes in the boat were checkin' out the junk instead of the style. Definitely going to sport the shorts if I ever hit up the YMCA.

As the second female voter...for shorts over suit. Some reason it looks fine for surfers, almost ok. for waterskiers but not for wakeboarders. I have been known to put shorts over my wetsuit or wear the Jet Pilot ride shorts with a long sleeve neo top.

I am against it. With that said, it looks OK for surfers not to wear them but it looks pretty dumb to see a wakeboarder with a wetsuit, vest and no shorts. From my point of view, if everyone wears boardshorts all the time, on or off the water, its good in my book. (Message edited by nuckledragger on February 26, 2008)

I really do not think long wetsuits are a good idea atall, although they keep us warm...your going to look like a gay with shorts or without really, lets face it. If it does get to the whole long wetsuit stage i just role the legs up to above my shorts. my 0.2
