I'm at about 250 hours on the original and from past experience one is playing with fire to let it go too much longer. Just looking for tips from anyone who has done one. It appears to be a hard spot to get to, can you actually see into it while changing it? Also the mechanic at Salinas Valley Marine told me he would use a remote starter switch to bump the motor over while working the old unit out and new one in, anyone found that to be necessary? Thanks for any advice anyone can give.

250 hrs is WAY too much on an impeller. You're lucky it's still going.

There was a thread I posted on not too far down on this same thing, searchy searchy.

It helps a lot to spray Simple Green or soap into the impeller and bump the starter to swirl it around. Not sure why the mechanic suggested a remote starter - I would definitely NOT bump the starter with tools or fingers in the pump. :-O

Depending on where the clearance you have around it is, you can get a puller from skidim, or use vise grips, two screwdrivers, needlenose pliers, or some combination.

Get yourself an impeller puller and save a lot of work.

Yeah yeah, one can use pliers screwdrivers and what have you, but why fight with it? ;-)

Oh, and I have that exact impeller puller. It workds like a charm.
