should I just pay the 75 bucks to get a new one or should I try and get the dealer to pay for it? The boat is now 5 years old but we put in new brackets last year (the removable style).
I was quite disappointed this thing broke so easily

Always ask for a replacement from the dealer. Worst they can say is no. Most warranties for stuff like that is longer for a year. Give it a try, the go out and buy if they say no.
