Anyone ride at or near the Outer Banks in NC?

My mother lives in the Outer Banks, NC. (OBX baby!) We've been kyacking in the "sound" there, but have never seen anyone boardin'? So is it do-able? (I know that it's very shallow, and that you'd better know the layout) But if not, where's the closet spot to ride?

We're coming out this summer, and would love to ride a couple of times.......? Thanks for any info.

I've tried to find something before, we go every year and it would have to be awesome. I know Kitty Hawk kites used to advertise that they sold gear and or chartered rides. I never was able to find anything or anyone who knew anything about it though. There used to be a board shop out on hwy 12 between Duck and Kitty Hawk in a little shopping center. I can't remember the name of it. It was small and sold all kinds of crap; cd's, records, skate boards, and a few wakeboards etc... I never could get anything out of them as far as who and where to ride though. If you find anything let me know though, I'm extremely interested. Oh yea, you can usually score some used gear at the end of the surf season. I tried to get a used surf board last year to wakesurf with but it fell through.

Thanks guys! I'll have my mom snoop and ask around, and let you know! I go in damn near every one of those shops on that strip! I love it. Last time I was there, was two years ago, but I don't remember seeing any wakeboard gear?

If you know about Atlantic beach, well the sound there i wakeboard in there sometimes. You just have to know where all the sandbars are, cause getting stuck isnt fun.

Where's Atlantic beach? Is that on the Outer Banks?

Atlantic is OBX per say but way down south. Been but never boarded there, I'm sure it's cool never the less. I thought about renting a jet ski and taking the wake skate out in the sound but there so expensive and probably would frown on the liability side of it. Where in OBX are you headed?

I'm pretty sure it's called Southern Shores..? It's right next to Duck.

Yeah, I've seen the jet ski's out down near Duck. There seems to be a nice stretch from there, south to the bridge where you come onto the island?? We'll see.
