Weighting an X-2

So with the X2 test drive thread going exactly where I knew it would go with people saying I have heard they are hard to set up with weight I just want to know what everyone with an X2 is running. I normally run stock with a 500 lb bag up front and a 350 lb or 500 lb bag in the back. I recently discovered that the boat does like a little more weight up front or the toe side wake tends to get a little washy but it is not a big deal like all these people who say it is hard to get it dialed would make it out to be. Who knows, maybe it is that I am not trying to add an additional 3 or 4 k which is what it seems most people like to do. I also ride behind my buddies X2 who has the fly high and we have never had a issue with the wake.

I guess what I want to know is what are you running in your X2 and was it really that hard to get it dialed like people (half I will assume have never weighted an X2 and have just "heard" it is hard) say it is.

You need the following:

- 400lbs of Pops Products Bags
(240 lbs in the nose, 120 under each of the front seats , 160 lbs in the back, 80 on both sides of the motor)
- Fly High Ballast upgrade
- OJ 14.25 x 14.50 prop

I also liked it with just the stock ballast and the lead personally. But I am old and my knees can't take the big stuff all of the time.

That sounds about right . I need to stop being cheap and get the fly high upgrade. Do you have pics of the wake with that weight configuration?

i run the same as wakeboardstl in my 07 x2. wake is very solid and rampy.

Hm, I have found the boat likes weight rear (very odd for wash problems, I know). I have been riding one all summer and here are some set ups we have run

1. Stock ballast full (3 tanks) and a 725 parallel with (touching) the back seat. Not huge, but hard and nice and clean. (We usually had people too, evenly distributed)

2. A 725 down the middle pependicular with (and touching) the back seat going forward past the driver seat, and a 440 in the front down the spine again on the floor as far forward as possible. Seems funny, but worked well.

One day we had just stock ballast but I think 12 people, evenly distributed EXCEPT 1 300 lb guy was in the front (everyone else was probably 120-140 on average), which contrary to the normal laws of wake, made the wake curl over. No idea why...

I have a friend that runs stock plus 450lbs on either side of the engine, plus a 600lb bow sack. I think it's a total of 2400#. Wake is dialed like that and all of the sacs are hidden.

I have the fly high upgrade and the wake is fantastic but it takes FOREVER for the boat to plane. should i put more weight up front? what does weight up front do to the wake?

If you have the FlyHigh you will need to change your prop. You need a 14.25 x 14.5 OJ and you will be all set.

try and keep all weight in front of the motor. no weight in the back lockers. keeps shape and boat still planes. tun of nose and floor weight

thanks wakeboardSTL! very helpful. another question for you. I don't know if my FlyHigh system is plumbed right. do your sacks empty gradually even without turning on the ballast pumps? I would have thought the sacks would stay full until I flip the switch to empty, but that is not the case. they lose water over time so that during a long session I need to top-off the sacks a couple of times. it's not the end of the world but still annoying.

That sounds a little strange, ours never leaked down at all. What year X2 do you have and does you stock ballast tanks have the same issues?

If you stock tanks are bleeding down as well you may want to look into replacing your impellers in the ballast pumps. MC has a new green one that is supposed to last longer and seal better. However, depending on the year of your boat it may already have them.

If you have a newer X series (08-09) they may already be in there and if someone ran the pumps while dry you may have damaged the impellers. We having the same problem with our new Xstar.

I run just what Dustin Yost does... total ballast appox. 2400#. Plus about six people (two in front) evenly spread and you should be good. I've found I need to go at least 22.5 mph to get the wake nice and clean with this weight. I'm running the Acme 1285 and I get on plane quick! It's no X-Star but I'm no pro either.

Anyone have photos of a sacked out X2 wake? I've only seen stock photos which aren't too impressive.

Last time I rode one we just added 150 in lead to each side of the motor and a 500 sac in the nose. The wake was shaping up nicely. It gave me the itch to try one heavy and see what we could do with it.

That is my wake with stock ballast plus the flyhigh up grade? The back sacks were only filled up half way in back but we had 7 people in the boat. I am guessing we had close to 35k lbs in the boat. Had to have five people walk to the front to get it on plane.

Wow that looks steep for an MC, especially with only half filled sacks in the back.

GJH215 - We had a ballast puppy in the boat and the front tank it was hooked up to would empty by itself too. Probably had the black impeller but I've never looked. Pump died from being drowned so I haven't used it in a while...

Forgot to mention that i got the sacks for the x-star for my boat not the x2 sacks. So i have the x-star rear sacks and the integrated bow sack for the x2. The wake is sick and gives tons of pop. I want to join the 5k club. So if i get a new prop then i will start adding the weight.

I Have an 06 X2 with the Fly High System
Front sac is hidden under the seats and only fills about 3/4 full - prob 400 lbs
backs are 550 lbs each and i fill them till they spill.
the wake WAS sick.

I just added 150 LBS of Lead to the front and the wake is WAY better. I am going to get more lead and put 250 in the front and add 75 to each locker like wakeboard STL.

What rope length and speed do you guys ride? I have been going betwen 75' and 24.5 MPH vs 80' and 25.5 Mph. It doesnt seem quite right.

Some of us were riding at 75' at 23.8 MPH and some were rising 80' or 85' at 24.6 MPH. Speed are according to perfect pass. We are riding the same now behind the new boat.

Are you in fresh or salt water? I ride mostly in salt water.
