I keep my boat very clean. It doesn't stay in the water and I spray it with quick clean marine after every use. Well, I went to cottage in northern michigan and the boat sat in the water for 10 days. When I took it out of the water, to my horror, hard water stains that i can not get out easily. Any suggestions?

I had to use soem hull cleaner, oxcillic acid(sp) (Starbrite) to remove stains before. very easy, just spray it on then let sit for 30 seconds the wash off with hose.

Hot Sauce by boat bling is the best stuff I have used to remove water spots. I boat around Havasu in 110+ temps with very hard water. Works better than any thing I have used and it will not strip your wax like vinegar and water.

I have a cabin in Northern Wisconsin on a lake that is totally iron filled. After a 10 day vacation with the boat in the water, I have brown stain all over the hull. There is NO such thing as wiping this down clean at the boat launch. I buy Sno-Bol or liquid toilet bowl cleaner from Wal-Mart, put it in a misting spray bottle, and spray it all over the hull. Then I use a sponge or a brush (with gloves and eye protection) and the brown scrubs right off. Then I spray down completely with a hose, and re-wax the boat.

This is not a fun process and takes a good 3-4 hours, but it does come totally clean in the end so it is worth it. I'm considering doing just the sides of the boat during the season and the entire boat only once at the end of the year since I think it will all come clean either way.

Ryan, believe it or not but toilet bowl cleaner works extremely well. I had some stains on my boat and was worried I wouldn't get it clean. Caution though .... flow these steps. 1) try vinegar/water to get as much off as possible, 2) spray on toilet bowl cleaner, 3) let it 'set' for only a couple minutes, 4) take a soft/rubber type of scrub brush (something you'd use to clean dishes with) and start scrubing the strains - they will come off!! 5) rinse off the cleaned area with water, 6) re-wax your boat. I've seen boats that have sat in the lake all summer (4 months) and come out of the lake with literally 1/2 inch of green algae on the hull and using the approve method ... completely remove it. It's not something you want to do repeatedly to your boat. Doing it just this one time will not hurt your gel coat (acid in toilet bowl cleaner). It will though completely remove your stains .... guaranteed! Basically it's a similar process to what Erik describes. Good luck and don't worry!

go with the 50/50 vineger it melts the spots on contact....you can even use full strength but rinse right after.

Use Babe's Spot Solver. That stuff works great. After you get the spots off, wipe down with Babe's Boat Bright. We use Babe's Boat Bright every time that we pull out. I definitely minimizes the water spots. Babe's has a great product line.
