I was talking with CASkimmer the other day about fins and it reminded me of a trick that Jerry Price of Shred Stixx showed me. Most of the interchangeable surfstyle fins are made from nylon or some other plastic. They are easy to cut down and shape using a bench grinder, but better if you have a band saw and grinder.

I prefer Future's fin, not that they are better, just easier for me to install the boxes. The SB1 series of fins come in a size as small as 3.25 inches. Yet, the outline of the fin starts at the very trailing edge of the fin box. I experimented by taking a larger fin and cutting it down to 3.25, BUT I made one set of fins that were centerd in the fin box and one set that moved the fin shape all the way to the front of the fin box. Shaping a 3.25" fin on the Future's SB1 allows a full 1.25" of adjustment from trailing edge to leading edge.

The differing results were pretty amazing. Shorter fins loosened the board up, moving the fin shape forward loosened the board up also, doing both REALLY loosened the board.

If your old tired surfstyle board isn't handling the way you want, you might mess with the fins before the season starts.

Any techie's out there that can design an adjustable box and fin setup for wakesurfers?

Jeff, have you tried the RC5 boxes. That's what we switched to and we're trying both the TW1 (3.25) and the C5 (2 3/8)

That's a new one on me CA, tell me about these boxes and fins. Will I need a new template to install the boxes?
