I am looking at a 99 205v with tower, tandem axle trailer, speakers,330 hp, less than 200 hours for $23k.
I know it isn't the wrap around seating but do you think this is a fair deal for a v-drive? I also read that there might have been some problems with the vinyl for that year. Does anyone have any input on this? What do you think of the price?
I am coming for a DD and want a V-drive for the entertaining aspect(cause frankly I suck at a boarding but love it). Let me know what you think. Thanks!

WHAT DD YOU GOT NOW?

Well this hull on this boat throws a pro wake for sure some would even arguably their best.

The vinyl problem was in the bow. The stitching had too much detail and tended to rip at the stitching. Price is decent depending on options and condition. I would be worried about the low hours. Must have had a new engine or sat for a long time w/o use.

worried about the low hours ?

that is about 23 hours a year. Not everyone lives on a lake or goes riding every weekend.

Coming from a closed bow Brendella. I know this will be much better wake wise!

Swatguy - Thank you so much for the info. I did ask the guy if it ever sat more than a year without being used and he said he has used it at least once every year and been winterized every year at the local MC dealer. Think that makes a difference?

I've got this boat and so far it's been great. I usually don't ride with a lot of people, so the seating layout isn't a big deal for me.

Pro's:
Great wake possible (even a starboard side surf wake)
Solid Engine ( I too have the LTR)
Plenty of room to put weight / gear

Cons:
Interior Layout - limits capacity, but this could be solved with basic construction skills and a vinyl shop.

Transmission whine - I've got a powerslot transmission and it has a very pronounced whine. It's not noticeable at boarding speeds, but slow cruises are not nearly as quiet and pleasurable as they could be.

One-Piece Rear Hatch - This gets old after a while. If you have the automatic hatch then it's even worse. Mine just uses gas shocks. I hate not being able to get to gear from the platform or making people get off of the sundeck to get something.

Vinyl - When I got my boat the vinyl had been taken well care of and even then the rear seat split real bad after two seasons. Cost about $100 to have re-done. My observer seat is starting to go right now.

Air intakes - The hoses pop off frequently and if your cover doesn't cover them, like mine, you get water in the stoarage compartments in the driver's footwell area.

I got my boat about 3 years ago with 320 hours for 20K. I only have a single axle trailer though, and the audio system had to be totally re-done, there was no built in ballast either.

Kirk,
Thanks for the info. Maybe $23k is to much for this boat.
It is in great shape, the only thing I don't like is it not having wrap around seating. I was thinking about getting 2 of the launch pad lounges to put down each side but maybe I'll wait.
I know the wake will be great, but maybe there will be other V-drives around in the low $20's. Thanks.

I have non-wraparound, and I thought I would want to change it too, but I actually prefer it now. IMO it makes the interior more versatile - I can put my 150 qt cooler, or a 750 lb sack for surfing along the port side of the boat, and people can sit on that. More floor space, too.

YOu ar egooing to be hard pressed to find V-drives for 20k. You are going to find after spending some time in that boat that the no wraparound lounge actually has some benefits and really opens up that tight boat. You could always fabricate a filler if you wanted. Again 23k s subjective. We would need moredetails, but I can tell you that the tandem trailer isn't a cheap option either

Trace and Swatguy,
Thanks so much for the info. I have to make a decision by tomorrow and I'm waffling pretty bad. One moment yes, the next no. I'll attach a few pictures, let me know if you have any more input!
Thanks

If you can get him down just a little bit I think that looks like a pretty sweet deal. That boat has obviously been taken care of well.

I think that price is a bit steep in today's market, especially considering it's an old school zero-flex (or at least appears to be) and does not have the wrap around seating.

PM me if you want an idea of what I paid for my 2000 in 2006 with wrap around seating and a 2nd gen zero flex tower, 105 hours, and tandem/galvanized trailer.

I had those bose speakers on my old xstar. You will want to replace them. There are nice at low volume, but suck up loud.

So are the Bose speakers marine specific? I didn't think they were but suprised someone else had them on a boat.
Old     (psudy)      Join Date: Dec 2003       07-21-2008, 1:44 PM Reply
Not ness. marine, but outdoor(patio etc). They worked fine, there is just a lot of better options out there now. Plus you could have a pretty loud patio once you take them off:-)

Those Bose 101's are the OG tower speakers. Back in '99, you were on the cutting edge of wakeboat audio if you were rockin a pair.

Here is a pretty plain jane but really clean 2000 205V for comparison purposes:

http://omaha.craigslist.org/boa/757932723.html

Would be pretty sick with a tower, ballast, and system.

bb12 - the ad has been deleted. What were the specs and price out of curiosity?

Erik, what did you get your 2000 for in '06? Wonder how much it would cost to put a zero flex on that thing?

Here is another one that looks immaculate:

That is a pretty sweet boat that looks well taken care of. IF you ask me price is fair for here in Chicago where used V-Drives are at a premium and not in an abundance. Ballast is easy to plumb in yourself. I wouldn't hesitate to make him an offer on such a clean ride.

I have a 2000 and a buddy of mine has a 99. His boat has waaaay more room in the cockpit as the 99's rear seat isn't as far forward either. I like things about is and things about mine. could go either way. The biggest thing is you won't have the storage with that 99 you can get on the 2000 and up, but again you can fabricate the filler seat and actuall turn that lounge into a U shape rather than the L due to the fact that rear seat is further back from the driver seat in the 99, my buddy is in the process of working on that. I wouldn't hesitate though at 21,500 again that tandem trailer is an expensive option.

If you add up the tower and the tandem along with the bimini its got, well split things down the middle but cost wise at least 2500 in options. Again though all about location and here in Chicago that thing wouldn't last 3 days on the for sale adds at 23k. But like others have said drop the wake tank, tons of uneeded stress on the transom

Swatguy, any chance you could get some measurements of the interior of your 2000 and your bud's 1999? Specifically the distance from the dash to the rear seat, you said it is further on the 99. And also from the back of the front seat to the rear seat of both. Pictures would be awesome.

I'm looking to buy my first boat this fall and I plan on it being a 205V. I was going to hold out for a 2000 because of the seating, but you may have just changed my mind.
Old     (etakk7)      Join Date: Apr 2006       07-23-2008, 7:01 AM Reply
I'd be interested in hearing those measurements as well. I can't see how the rear platform would be a different size than 2000, the engine takes up the same amount of space.

The big difference I noticed from the 99s to 00s, was the interior. They used different material(or stitch pattern) and it looks a lot more plush.

the 2000 205V listed a few posts back (the one with pics) does not mention a trailer at all. That's a big factor if you're trying to do a comparison based on price.
Old     (xstarrider)      Join Date: Jun 2007       07-23-2008, 12:42 PM Reply
I can for sure say that is the case. WE measured. gonna take a bit to get those exactly.

The engine is in the same spot, but the rear bench on the 99 is set further back over the tranny and a lot closer to the block and has very little room to manuver back there under the hatch. Where as in 2000 there is more wiggle room and the removable storage compartment is umder there to get to the tranny. Also the vinyl/foam is a bit thicker on the rear upright in 2000 than in 99 I have spent a ton of time in both.

We can easily get a full size cooler length wise behind his driver seat as that is our makeshift U seating for now. I can barely fit a mini cooler behind mine. I will see what I can come up with, but if someone with a 99 wants to post thier measurements I would be happy to give you mine in a day when I can get to my boat.

The room difference is amazing though That is why its stands out as both boats are the exact same size and is the same boat. Just a different top deck style
