I recently tested a MXZ and the wake was big but my wife and I could not stay on the wake (lack of push). We are beginner surfers and the board could have been a small factor. I was disappointed it was not better as I like the concept of not weighting the boat so much. However, my wife hated the interior; carpet on the side panels looked 70/80ish.

We had no problems with push on the X2 or RZR. We were limited to a 20 foot boat. Really wanted the RZR however Tige could not get the kinks worked out of the convex vx (new brackets to stop proposing). Ended up with x2 and could not be happier. Incredible boat and the surf wake is very nice.

MXZ is the absolute worse surf boat in the Malibu line up... hence, "spray gate". Get behind a 23lsv that is weighted properly and your mind will change.

Check out the Nautique Surf System NSS.

Available on the 210's, 230's and G series boats. Works like Surfgate but allows you to make small adjustments to the shape of the wave.

With the MXZ you must put weight on the opposite side you are surfing as well if you want the full benefit of the surf gate. If you are listing to far, the surfgate has no bite. Kevin, it is bummer that you did not get a chance to experience the surf gate--it was most likely because of operator inexperience.

For a big wave we set our MXZ with all stock filled, 750# in to compartment on the surfing side and 750# in the bow. If you drain the tank on the surfgate side you really get no benefit from the surf gate.
