Sorry to be that guy who asks about a previous post, but I can't find it in the search section anywhere. I believe it was about 2-3 months ago, someone posted about detailing their boat and outlined which products to use. And the thing I liked about that post is that most of the replies affirmed the products and everything used and the method. Not one of those threads where you get 20 different responses for 1 question.

Basically, I want to detail my boat very soon and get it ready for spring. I bought it at a repo auction and it is pretty filthy. The main thing that will help my boat shine is the buffing methods/materials for oxidation.

If you can remember that post, or if you have your own methods/materials please post up. thanks

Jeremy...here is my set up Rockwell buffer with 3M Superbuff III wool pad and the 3M Marine restorer and wax

Works great for removing oxidation and waxing all in one.

Hey Whiskey, that one step will take care of the whole thing? What if the oxidizing is pretty bad on the back end of the boat. Also the top stripe is really dull. Will this compound bring the shine back? I don't have a great pic, but here is one.

Thanks for the links Scott.

I like 3m Finesse it. It will take the oxidation right out.

Jeremy...the one step works great on the heavy ox and brings the shine back. But its not something I would recommended without a good buffer.

Do I need to use a different size buffer for the skinny black strip? Or will the pad allow it to push in the grooves of the stripe and buff it as well?

Also, I realize I need to really wash the entire boat. Should I just wash it with soap and water first, let it dry, then buff and wax.

Interior or exterior first, does it matter? Which interior products? and again, just wash it first with soap and water, then apply vinyl cleaner/conditioner or can I just use a vinyl cleaner? Lastly, will a hard bristle brush hurt the vinyl. What tools do you use for cleaning?

A couple Q's does anybody know if that skinny black strip on the top of the boat is part of the gelcoat or is it painted? I went over a small section of that yesterday and it didn't really do anything.

Also, my engine is filthy filthy. Someone suggested powerwashing it? Is this a good idea?
