I dont know how you all feel but i think for a professional wakeboarder to turn pro rock climber is kinda weak. As long as he is doing what he desires but it just goes to show that he must not have the dedication to the sport as many other professional wakeboarders in the industry. What do I know though...its just my opinion. What do you think?

not to disrespect isaac, but who are we to say what's right and what's "weak" about someone else's wishes to do something else?

while i agree, i couldn't go from wakeboarding to rock climbing, to each his own, right?

who did that anyway?

Yes, it is true. Andrew Atkinson has left wakeboarding to pursue an econimically rewarding career as a rock climber. He initally harbored interest in becoming a sheep hearder, but when he heard what it cost to get his first flock, he shuttered at the expense, not to mention the reality of all the sheep dung he'd have to keeping cleaning up around the house.
He also entertained the idea of starting his own travelling circus, but no one else flipped over the idea so he finally settled on the lucrative world of rock climbing.

Good luck, Andrew. May your cliff climbing adventures never take you on the fast track back down.

No fricken way. Got to be April fools. Please tell me it is. I'm tempted to call Arun, but if this is a joke, I'm sure he's in on it.

BTW, I'm a climber too. It is a rewarding sport, but I could never give up wakeboarding for it. Why would you have too?

When I was reading the article about half way through I was thinking no way this has to be a April fools joke... It is right?

Good call J-rod

The ladies is what got me started. She said "you wanna come pull some plastic with me?" which I of course was like "ooooh yeahhh", then learned that meant indoor climbing and thought "yeah, that's cool too"

And I'd join the indoor gym too if it wasnt $60/month and I didnt have this freakin payment for a winterized toy that hasn't left its trailer in 6 months...
Old     (wakeguru)      Join Date: Feb 2003       04-01-2005, 8:57 AM Reply
$60 a month? Helnaw. They better have a gym, sauna and leather couches for that fee.

Ha ha Ant...and I was thinking a wakeboarder would make a good climber because of the fore arm strenght required. What a Schmuck.
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       04-01-2005, 9:24 AM Reply
$60 a month is pricey. I pay about $50 for everything David mentioned. in a 100,000 square foot facilty.

The hand and forearm workout is intense.

This is a joke. I just talked to Bill Doyle of CWB and he told me and the rest of you to take the fish hook out of our mouths! FUNNY!

If i remember last year the aprils fools joke was with Shaun Murray leaving Hyperlite or something like that. We'll written though Dave, the story cracks me up :-)

Tom you are wrong. I have been training with Andrew for the last six months. He has put the same dedication towards rock climbing as he did towards wakeboarding. I have never scene someone with as much natural talent as him. He will still be in Seattle next weekend for the premier of the Butter Effect. I beleive we are going to be doing a demo on the rock wall at REI in downtown Seatte. Trust me he made the right decision.

Isaac, When MJ went from basketball to baseballs minor league was that also a sign of lack of dedication to his sport?

Old     (gbphantom)      Join Date: Apr 2003       04-01-2005, 3:52 PM Reply
Last years was Parks leaving Hype and Shawn leaving LF and starting their own wakeboard company.

Hey Piranha....you can take what I said how ever you want. It is my opinion that a change like that is weak. Yes I think MJ's change to the minor leagues was WEAK. He is a basketball player...not a baseball player. I think someone that is truly dedicated to a sport would never up and change the main sport they are dedicated to. why do you get so worked up over someone elses opinion...man is it funny.

yeah if you've ever climbed @ a rock gym you definitely wouldn't say it's weak, granted it's an April fools joke but nonetheless, theres nothing weak about climbing at all.I'm not trying to start anything or offend anyone it's Just my .02

Your right, rock climbing is extreme in its own way. In fact I have done some rock climbing at the Joshua Tree National Forest and it definately is a rush. I apologize if I offended anyone by saying that a change in the sport that a person is professionally involved with is "weak" . Both sports are cool and was not trying to demean or compare one sport to another. I just was attempting to discuss the article, if it were true, and i thought it was lame that a pro would do that. Oh well, its fake and this topic is old so take care. peace
