Hey guys, Just wanting some input on what to do to service my prostar 205. I'm just about to hit 130 hours. Dealer last serviced at 80 hours. Should I keep taking it to the dealer for service or is this a difficult process at all? Doesn't seem like it would be.
Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Riley
i have the same boat as you, me and my dad service it every year. We are around 140 hours i think. Its not to difficult, the oil filters hard to get out. We change the oil filter, spark plugs, and change the oil. pretty easy to do
depending on the engine it's a different process, we have the Corvette LT1 and it has a oil drain that you feed through the plug hole and open up to drain into a pan that is sitting on the ground below the boat. That works great, I don't know what engine you have but it is definately something that you should be able to do by yourself.
I am pretty sure that all the engines have a hose to drain out of the hole. It is best to hook the boat up to a hose and run the engine for a bit(after you get the hose out the bottom)to get the oil hot. It comes out much faster that way. Super simple.
Well that should be a given... oil's gotta be warm to have it properly drain. Just be careful that hose isn't very friendly when it comes to keeping hot oil off your fingers, be readdy with the pan! Make sure you have a cold beer waiting for you upon completion.
Use a large freezer bag when you take the oil filter off. Get it lose then slip the bag over it that way you wont get any oil on carpet or boat when you remove it. Use NAPA Gold filters they cost about 5 or 6 bucks. I use a small sucken pump that ruuns off the drill. It sucks the oil right out when it's warm.
