How do you grease the starter bendix? For a 2007 Indmar (Malibu).

Can you explain what that means, and how to do it?

Just out of curiousity is it something that you do yearly usually on your boat???

You'd pull the starter off the engine, and grease the spring/gear assembly around the center shaft of the starter.
Item # 2 in this diagram

Never done it to any boat as regular maintenance. Only did it to one.... on an engine we were rebuilding & had on an engine stand at the time.

I'm not really sure why you need to do this anyway, you don't pull your starter on your vehicle annually. Just my 2 cents.

I think this is overkill, but indmar wants it done every year. For what it is worth, my dad has a 85 Mastercraft and has not greased the starter ever with no issues. I don't grease mine annually either and I haven't had starter issues.

If for some reason your starter ever got wet, or you happened to have your starter out for some reason, then maybe it's time to grease the starter bendix. Otherwise, I'd have to agree, major overkill.
