do any of you guys break in new ropes before you use them? ive seen people stretch them out with cars. does it really help? i feel my rope is some what elastic. i have SL blue blazer and ACC jacket. I like the SL better, but i can feel it stretch some times.

Nope, never heard of that. A low polyE rope shouldn't need stretching.

spectra ropes don't need this. poly-p and poly e do.

darin did this when we were at the spot. used his truck to strech the rope out. said you get another 5ft or so out of the rope.

thats where i saw it too. i never asked why. does stretching it like that also take away elasticity, or it just makes it longer with the same elasticity to it?

How much can the ropes take, I mean couldn’t you break it easily stretching it with your truck?

I like to take mine and spin/wrap it around the prop.

stretching the rope just helps take the elasticity out of the line by tightening the weave of the rope. In general, spectra lines don't need this since they don't stretch enough to notice. since poly-E lines aren't woven as tightly and stretch more, stretching them between two cars will help make them less springy. People do this all the time for slalom ropes. Usually you aren't really putting that much force on the ropes. Ususually nothing more than 100 lbs. If you want, you can get a fishing scale from any sports store to see how much pressure you're applying to the rope.

If its only applying 100lbs of force, wouldnt just riding with it once do the same thing. And if what Darin said is true "makes the rope 5 ft longer" then there has to be a lot more force then just 100lbs.
