Has anyone made a home made winch and if so using what and how much it cost you all together.

I was thinking of making one out of an old 50 or 100 moto bike.

I think I saw one with a golf cart...they just took off one wheel and the where the wheel was had the spool with rope... don't see why a dirtbike would be any different.

me and a friend have constructed two winches now

not difficult at all

make your own frame, get motor from ebay, make spool from an old go cart rim and sheet metal

managed to do ours for about 250 at the most

most of the supplies were donated by dumpster, but you can get out making one real cheap if you find the right places to look

how hard is it to build a winch? it depends on how nice you want it to be.

yea, it's not a "must have" more like a "nice to have"

a lot of folks do a hydraulic brake, some do a simpler hand brake
