Advice on buying a board (syn vs. cadence?)

Hey girls!

I'm looking for some help board shopping... I'm 110 lbs, 5'4" and looking to buy a board (but there's nothing close by I can test out). I've been riding my BF's 134 substance with *way too big* bindings up until now and really want my own gear...

I'm thinking about the Hyperlite Syn (132) or LF Cadence (131). Any advice on these boards, or maybe other suggestions?

If you liked the way the Substance rode, then I would suggest going with the Cadence... it's just a women's version of a Substance.

I currently ride an era, and the syn is pink version of that board. I have ridden the substance a couple of times, and the landings are really, really soft. I think the substance might be a little quicker than the era, though.

My best advice would be to find a board shop (online or not) that carries both boards. I would purchase one and try it out. If you don't like it, most companies will allow you to send it back for a refund, or store credit. Then just try the other one.

Fortunately, I live where I can demo just about any board, but I've found, from living elsewhere, that most store-owners are pretty sympathetic toward your situation. Defintely check it out first.

I have the Cadence 131 and would highly recommend it. I would think that the Syn is faster though, thats why I bought the Cadence, althought its not a slow board. I have not had a Syn in my hands but due to the fact that my State 125 was heavier than the Cadence 131 I have now, I would guess the Cadence is much lighter than the Syn.

If you like the way your bf board is treating you, you can get the exact same one with girl graphs, thats the Cadence 134, which I think would be a good size for you. But if you prefer smaller boards, go with the 131.

I was also between those 2 boards and the reason I chose the Cadence was because of the speed of the board. Some people that had tried both the Substance (Cadence) and the Era (Syn) told me the Era was a bit faster.

Which bindings are you getting?? I always recommend LF bindings for being the most comfortable and supportive.

Cris, I've already bought bindings (LF Minx, small). Do you know how big a difference there is between riding the 131 and 134? I thought a slightly smaller board would be better for my size, but should I stick with the 134?

Ok I have both - the 2005 Syn 132 and the 2006 LF Cadence 131 I have only ridden the syn 1 time and the cadence 3 times and so far I am leaning towards the cadence. It has a little more pop and feels a little more advanced than the syn but I still need to ride them both a little more to get a better feel. The syn feels really stable and the cadence a little looser feel on the water. I hope this helps - Oh yeah and I am 5ft 2in 110lbs

Sarah.. it all depends on what you like. How do you feel your bfs board?? sizewise?? I used to ride a State 125 last year, but then decided to upgrade to the Cadence 131. It's still out of my weight range (only by 10 lbs) but bigger boards give you more pop and softer landings. However, a board thats too big for you can make it harder in some things.. for example, I rode a premier 136 the other day, the pop and landings were great, but I couldnt do my 180s because it was too much board for me.

If you feel the size of your bfs board is good for you, go with the 134, but if you feel it is a little big, go with the 131.

BTW, Im 5'2 and 90 lbs and if i weighed 20 lbs more id go for the 134
