Ive got a ten and have plans for a 12 in a ported enclosure if that means anything to you. Dont skimp on power to drive it either or you might as well get the ten.

I run a single ten and it sounds fine. I just have always liked 10s over 12s if you are playing all types of music. I think either will sound good though, what kind of amp do you plan to use to run the sub?

Thinking about a JL 500/1 or something close to that.I want a seperate Bass control for just the sub.Think 500 watts is enough? It will be going in an 86 nautique under the closed bow area.

It all depends on what kind of sound you want. If you are looking for a tight clean bass sound go with a 10, but if you want to feel it thump more get a 12. Whatever you do go with JL. There subs can be a little pricey at times, but well worth the money. The best single sub to go with is the 10W7 or 12W7. I would pair the JL subs with the JL amps. This is my $0.02 not knowing what the budget is or how much room you have in the boat. Whatever you do go with JL subs. I cannot stress that enough. The quality is bar none and the subs range in price from 125-700.

a 10 or 12 W7 is way too heave to put where he wants, that would need alot of support, and alot more than 500 watts, i have a rockford forgate he12 in my x star and it sounds awesome

What support would he need you build the box and install it. you could run a JL 500/1. JL says it is rated at 500, but real output is about 700. The JL amps are the best out there. Not trying to talk sH@t, onece again this is my opinion.

Holy sub in the CRX is bound to be worth more than the car.

the sub ways close to 70lbs and is a very strong sub, you have to build a very strong box for one, we were running 2 12w7s with 2 phoenix gold 1400 watt amps and the subs were locking up because of lack of power

No offense but I would not compare the quality of the jl amp power and Pheonix Gold. I am saying this from personal experience. I promise if you go into a shop and get them to demo the 500/1 on either 12w7 or 10w7 it will be the shizl.

Again this is my own opinion.

Stereos are like everything else. It comes down to personal opinion. What I like you may not like, what I think sounds great you may think is not enough bass/too much bass. Just go and listen to the stuff yourself at a stereo store that you can trust. Go to several and see what they all say. DEMO,DEMO,DEMO. Research, Research, Research.

As Long as you like the stereo that is all that matters.

Jeff,

By the way check out the w6v2 ProWedge Systems, and W7 ProWedge Systems. I know where you can get a JL 10w7 with the box for 500. Let me know if you are interested.
